I think it's 3 days before they will despatch it. They reckon mine will be sent off tomorrow, so I'm still ahead ;)

oh it's tempting, the 17" has always tempted me and my 15" (early first gen) is getting quite old, I think the true HD screen might tip the balance but it's a hell of a lot of cash configured up (I figure I want the 7200rpm drive and probably the 4GB ram...)

so tempting...
I'm getting a maxed 17".. will be happy to answer any questions for you if you're considering the same purchase :)

I won't have Aperture.. but I could do some of CS3

I'll be getting the glossy finish if that's going to matter.. I find it superior to the matte finish now! :)

All custom orders come from the far east (Shanghai).

Should be getting my beast soon :D

When I had my Macbook Pro on order, it came via T.N.T and never arrived, several phone calls and someone tracked it to a locked cage in the local depot, with a sticker on saying "Hold" the woman I spoke to was ever so apologetic, and had no idea why it was in an out of the way locked cage saying "Hold"

 TNT messed my order up once.. lucky it was only an iPod though!

My last MBP came via WW though, and it came in such good nick it was hard to believe that it came from the Far East! :D

Hope they deliver my one this time too...

Mine is estimated 26-27th June, shipping today :)

Hopefully that estimate will fall and I'll have it next Friday or sooner.

Hi EVH,

Nice spec there, Im gonna be getting exactly the same apart from only 2GB of memory (will get more if needs be from elesewhere).

Now what I would like to know is how that Hi Res Glossy screen is in sunlight/brigh light? I went into an Apple store and from what I could see there was some reflection on the Glossy and none on the Matte. But obviously I couldn't take it out into the daylight. Would it be possible for you to take some pictures of it in the daylight?
To be honest I only went glossy because my last few MBPs were matte and I haven't looked back since.

Don't use it out in daylight, but it's never troubled me indoors since I've had it.. even sitting in a brightly lit room with a window directly behind me :) If you are undecided I would highly recommend the glossy mainly because it's a nice change from matte and everything seems nicer.. also it's easier to clean!

No pics yet as I haven't got it .... yet.

Drool.

EVH what is the spec of the ram? SODIMM DDR2 2GB sticks?

Hmm... I'm severely tempted, although I have a feeling they're quad core the October refresh with Lepoard onboard too..
Yes, but by buying this MBP now it will have greater resale value in September ;)

Get those pictures in the Mac Gallery Justin!!

Mine should be here sometime next week :)

Interested to know how this LED technology has an impact on the battery life... anyone?
Apple are stating improved battery times (30% IIRC) across the whole range :)

If you get a solid 4hrs (with wireless and bluetooth) then it should be a good indication that they've improved.. 5 would be nice!

Don't forget to fully discharge the battery before you initially charge it

Good job they've improved.. might shut some of 'the mac haters' up!

Ahh, forgot to do that, does that affect the battery life a lot? Also I usually have it at home and is it ok to keep it plugged in all the time? I mean does it run of the battery and charger or just the charger when plugged in?

Edit: I think if you found the 7200rpm drive elsewhere and fitted it yourself it would be a lot cheaper, although it would eat up the battery.
Not really.. It does say in the manual to do it every few months to recalibrate the battery though.

When the battery is fully charged the MBP runs off the AC Power, so running it 24/7 should just mean your battery is not being affected. Why not charge it up, use it for 5 hours and then just whack the MagSafe connector back in? ;)

I've read a few reports that the 7200rpm drive does little/nothing to battery life, so I can't see that being an issue.. besides, they're murder to change.

EDIT: That link won't work (wallpaper one you gave me)

best idea really is to get an eternal drive or two

if you use windows too it just makes more sence to store all files on an external fat 32 drive, that way you can access all your files from both mac and windows...

last time i looked mac drive didnt work on with EFI on the macbook and vista only can instal on ntfs... which is a really issue with the whole Vista and OSX on one system

yeah that 4gb limit is totally crap

we need a solution NOW not later!! i can only hope that leopard has NTFS support in it
