Ok...

I have a budget of £1000... I am either looking for a pre-made computer from OcUK....One i have been looking at and am very interested in is the Goliath...Now if i were to go for this what graphic card upgrade would be recommended for some who plays a lot of games but i wouldnt exactly say "hardcore" ....

Or the other option is with £1000 can i buy part idividually and build a computer myself ( i wouldnt build it i would have to get someone to do it as i would mess it up lol)

Basically i have £1000 to spent and i want a good gaming pc that will last and get the best for my money....So any opionions would be great...

T

Not hard to build your own PC, depends if you're too lazy to do it yourself, it's cheaper too, but, the Goliath is tough to hit your budget, it would go over.

Edit: Just did some fiddling, 5750 for graphics card for Goliath.

-5750.
-Windows 7 Home.
-Antec 300.
-Seagate 500GB.

Is there much differnce between 5750 and 5770? as there is only £20 between them..

Looking at the reviews for the goliath they date back to early last year...does this mean surely the compnents...mobo...cpu etc is dateing/dated already or..?

Thanks for reply

Nope, the components are fine, and the 5770 has about 5-10 FPS more than the 5750.

£1k on a gaming system - i would not be looking at a 5750. I wouldn't even be looking at a 5770. You should be able to easily get an I5 system, 4gb ram and 5850 gfx for £800ish.

I agree with that, which is why i stated it's cheaper to build it yourself, but he was interested in the Goliath and stated he would have to get someone else to do it.

Ok last few questions :)

I was looking at the 4890 which is £5 more then the 5770...now i know this is just going to sound stuipid lol but in my eyes i would have though 5770 would be a better card because its a higher number?

Also case wise i have been looking the antec 300 does look nice..but maybe to small? so i was thinking dragon-lord or antec 902 cos there bigger and more room inside so things dont get to hot...

If it was me, and i was buying that, i would stretch my budget and buy the following:

-5850.
-Windows 7 Home.
-Antec 902.
-Seagate 1TB.

£200 above your budget, but will get you along nicely.

PS: The 4890 would be fine, but do you want DX11 or not? And i would go with the Antec 902.

139sroberts....I have looked into making my own pc...but it would be my first time and just worried in spendng 1k on gear and just messing it right up.....

The things you have listed there...cos i have not made one before i have no idea what else would be compatible to go with it...mobo...psu etc...thats the only trouble

5770 vs. 4890 is a debate that's going on all over the internetz. Basically the 4890 is a bit faster but the 5770 is cooler running and has DX11 support (for what it's worth).

For a £1k build you should definitely be looking at a case better than the 300.

Plenty of people would help you with choosing components on here, we're nice like that and there's a 'how to build your pc' thread somewhere too.

Ok what ill do is pick out all the components needed and which i think are good.... list them on here and let me know what you think...

Just looking at the bundles on OCUK compared to some competitors now and i think for your price range OCUK offering is poor. I would therefore, if i were you, build myself a system for the money.

You can't go wrong with 95thrifles guide to building your own components:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18060182

People here would gladly help you through the building process. But ofc, i don't want to convice you to do something you dont want to do!

To answer your question, the 4890 is more powerful (which is why it costs more i guess) than the 5770 but is based on older technology. The 5770 supports dx11, the 4890 does not.

I personally prefer the dragon-lord and antec 902 to the antic 300, expecially for a self build, but i wouldn't think heat would be an issue.

Price bracket, either, the i5's are at a nice price but the 955 and the 965 are also at nice prices and both perform very well.

That is the best you are going to get. You have money left over, so you can buy Windows 7 if needs be. You could get rid of the 5850 and get 5770's in crossfire which beat a single 5870 but then you limited with proformance.

You can either get a better motherboard if you wanted to, although the one i have selected is instock and supports crossfire and sli.

I would really reccomend you build one your self as it's easy as 1..2..3 :D
There are so many guides on the internet to build your own computer, there is one of here somewhere.

Good luck mate :D

EDIT: If you live locally, I am willing to build your computer for you :D Let me know where abouts in the Uk you are located.

Ok this is what i have come up with let me know what you think.

Processor - Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) £218

Mobo - Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £258

Graphics - In all fairness this is where im stumped totally on whats the best one for me i have chose this nvidia as i have always had nvidia but please tell me a better card if you know of one .... Palit GeForce GTX 275 896MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £184

Ram - Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9) £144

PSU - Antec Signature Premium 650W Power Supply £82

HDD - Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (0F10383) £67

Case - Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £41 ... Im chose this case as it was looking like the cost of all this was going up extremly high... its a nice case but please recommend better

CPU Cooler - To be honest i have absolitly no idea on this so if you could link one that would be great

Drive - OcUK Brushed Aluminium Blu-Ray ROM Slot Loading Drive - Black (Retail) £53

This has come to a grand total of ... £1047

Please critisize what i have chosen and even downgrade things so try save money if possible if there isnt much differnce in performance..

Thanks in advance

You said you ain't a mad gamer, but then you chose the 920, don't understand some people :p

On a serious note, the build you posted is "okay" was you smashing when you chosen the parts lol :D?

One I have posted is better for your needs, as its the same, if not better than the build you have posted.

Core i7 860 sits on the 920. Tripple channel is nothing.

The h50 is a cracking Cpu cooler, best cooler imho.

The ati 4890 is around the same performance as the gtx 275, if not better in some cases.

This is the build you want mate :D But tbh, the first build I posted is better. This build i have posted is good for gaming, but the other build would be better.
