New member, First build! What are your thoughts?

How quiet are seagate then?

Cool. That would be awesome. I think I might buy my mobo at the end of this month so I can get the ball rolling!!

I think I might have to go for the SSD + HHD combo just because I can't resist!! + I can't wait to see my mates face when he sees how fast my PC is compared to his £1000 MAC! lol

I would definately get the 2600k and so you can overclock it, then ask your friend what his cpu is clocked at on his Mac :P

I don't see how I could save that much money! The prices aren't going to change that much in the next 6 months! By the time I buy the CPU hopefully Ivybridge will be out so the i7 2600 will already be cheaper! And hopefully HDD production will start in a few months to bring down the prices of HDD!

GAT.....i like that! lol

I've just found out that you can buy PSU testers for £5 - £10! Are these any good because that would be ideal to test my PSU when I get it.

Firstly, no one can know what prices will be like in 6 months! Also from what I hear, the way Intel do things is to bring out new chips and phase out the old ones without reducing the prices much.

As for HDDs, well we all hope they can start making them in volume again asap!

Hopefully buying my PSU next month! The Nexus seems very good but not many of them around! Any reason for this??

Another thing, would you recommend the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 over the Asrock H67DE3?

Surely if he can buy parts that are in this week only everytime they pop up it's cheaper than buying everything all at once? Obviously he can't use free delivery until he reaches a certain post count but it's worth considering.

Personally I'd stick with more well known brands like XFX and Corsair. As they're around you're more likely to get a replacement should you need to :)

The Gigabyte board is Z68 so has more features (including allowing overclocking should you ever get an i5 :)) so I'd get the gigabyte if you can afford it

Thank you!!! Your the only person to be on my side!!!!!! :D

Any thoughts about the other questions?

You can link your forum account to your purchasing account to get free delivery now I think. Check the link top right that says free shipping for loyal forum members.

Get it all at once to avoid the problem I just had:

Bought my case, kept it in the corner of the room. Decided to open it last night (18 days after purchase) and USB port was knackered and OCUK won't even offer a replacement since I have to tell them within 7 mythical days.

So get it all together and check it all immediately withing the 7 days to avoid this headache I have mate :)

I bought a case that came with an 80mm case fan and in the spec it said it will take a 120mm front fan. Opened it up and the case fan was broke but this didn't bother me as I never intended on keeping it but the most annoying thing is that their is no space for a 120mm fan!!! By the time I finish with it will but it's annoying that I'm going to have to drill new holes and cut some metal just to make it fit!

I think I'm going to try and buy my mobo and CPU at the same time, get a PSU tester for the PSU (obviously!) and hope for the best with the RAM (which should be ok I think) and SSD (Again should be ok I think).

The *B-grade* stuff that OC have, are they just customer returns or are they ones that were broke but fixed?

Not sure. Customer returns I think.

Most of it doesn't come with original accessories and things, but if you find a good deal in there worth a shot!

My friend bought a B grade monitor - apart from no leads, which was expected - it was great :)

EDIT: found this:

What does "B-Grade" mean?
B-Grade items are manufacturer's repairs or items we are unable to sell as new, they may be subject to packaging damage or may be a brown box product. All B-Grade items come with a 90 day warranty and may be missing items such as driver CD's and cables. Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with the reason why this is B-Grade as each B-Grade item is different.

Just found a very good deal on a HDD but I won't be able to test it for at least 3 months! Not sure whether I should go for it or not!!!!!!!!!! What are the chances it's faulty? It's a *B-grade* item!
