New Motherboard, CPU & Memory.

1150/55/56/51 is the same.

That cooler is large, I had one briefly and it covered the top slot on a board it was fitted to.

I also seem to remember I had to remove the cases rear fan for it to fit.

Not even sure I'll need any IPA now; a few drops of water on some toilet roll has cleaned off the base of the cooler's heatsink very well indeed.

Don't bother. Just get yourself a SSD and a better GPU. More RAM would be the third priority.

The motherboard died, otherwise there's no way I would have upgraded. :)

Already have two 850 Evo solid state drives.

GPU is a GTX980Ti.

I may well pick up some more memory in a couple / few months, but as this wasn't a planned upgrade I've intentionally kept the costs down a little.

You don't get standoffs with a motherboard. They come with the case (Some have them pre-installed). So assuming you are reusing your current case then you will already have the standoffs.

Looking at the case, there appears to be what I can only describe as gold threads - which the old board must have been attached to. I have the old board right next to me / nothing has been lost, so all should be okay.

Edit: I've just loosely put the old mobo back in the case, and the gold threads line up perfectly with the stand-off holes in the board.

Yeah, the bottom left and right holes aren't there like they are in the Z77 pic. I'll locate them on the case and remove those two.

Bit strange. The solitary stand-off on the far right side (right of the 'middle' ones) actually sits just outside of the board, so is it okay to remove that one as well?

There are other configurations of holes available - on the case layout, but I can't see the board meeting up properly with the IO shield if I start positioning the mobo differently.

Well you certainly dont want any stray standoffs touching the back of the board where there is not a hole for it.

Otherwise PIFFFSZZZZZZZ goes your board.

The middle one under the RAM slot try and move it in to line up with the hole, if not there should be enough standoffs that do line up to keep the board secure.
