NEW MSI B550 UNIFY better than X570 UNIFY??

Ok will do, might have to do it tomorrow nite, busy day tomorrow. Thanks for the help Alex.
My plan was to install the 750 in the 4th slot anyways so I just need to remove the other one.
Worth a try mate if it works then we see if we can sort the problem with the 850 if it fails try just with 1 stick of ram just in case its the ram but try with both sticks first and your welcome mate

MSI is pushing this board so hard to become the AM4 staple. While boards like the X570 Tomahawk/Unify haven't even got 1.2.0.0 beta yet, the B550 version already has a non beta 1.2.0.0 as of 2 days ago.

The only thing stopping me from taking a punt on this is coil whine.

I just installed the beta bios, somehow missed that they updated in the past day. Thought it would help my issues but nope.

I am looking to go with the X570 Unify motherboard as it cheaper than the B550 Unify at present. I have a question how loud is the chipset fan on the X570 Unify motherboard and can you control the speed?

You shouldnt hear the fan to be honest once system is on when first switched on it will spin up but once it on thats it

I just found a video on youtube of MSi Gaming pushing the power of AMD Zen 3 on MEG B550 UNIFY and MEG B550 UNIFY-x (design for memory overclocking), looks like a good product.

No time stamps on video so you have fast forward to 47min to see board

Ok mate good luck

Well I give up.

So tried to install Windows on the bottom M2 slot using the wd 850 then 750 and also tried 2 different USB drives.

It seems to crash around the time I input pin/corona/one drive/starts install... Seems random but always around that period.

One thing I noticed is my bios says pump speed 0, from what I can tell its connected right and currently in the bios it reads 42c core cpu.

I have no idea what the issue is... As mentioned previously when hooking up my dp monitor I got really wierd things happening like keyboards connected and then causing problems getting to the bios etc...

Does this make sense? Why issues installing windows? Would a bad mb cause this? Wouldn't think it would be the memory? Nvmes are acting the same and on their site it lists the 750 as compatible...

Oh and the gpu is fine, had to pop it back in my old system to do some work using my 4k dp connected monitor, and was fine. I need to get another gpu.

Have you got a spare cooler to try a stock one will do also take battery out leave it for 30 mins pull plug from mains then try again or try ckearing cmos if you can just incase its a setting

Yes it's removable there are 2 other plates just above so you wouldn't want a wide cooler. Ie you can just leave the plate off.
Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I actually meant the m2 slot that’s closest to the CPU (rather than the m2 slot that’s furthest away from the CPU).

First there’s the motherboard heat sink that comes off. Then there the first thermal pad, the second thermal pad and then the bottom m2 plate.

I’m interested if you can remove that ^^^

Many thanks in advance for clarifying!

Here is a good pic from Newegg, and yes you take off the brackets and you don't have to install them. They actually get quite warm. They are supposedly good heatsink in this mb thou - some thermal pads both sides and a nice plate.

No spare cooler my first ryzen cpu. Atm I'm doing a memtest86 - seems yo take forever. No errors so far and going for 1.5 hours.

I think I'll try just one stick and try installing windows. Maybe try installing the new bios.

Thanks again! I think I may not have made myself clear so I actually made a thread a while ago showing what I mean with some drawings. Hopefully that makes sense! :p

(You’ll see what I mean when I say m2 plate)

Ok I have the most messed up results you could think of...

I have access to 3 monitors.
1. Only dvi dual link.
2. Older 40" Philips copycat hdmi or dp
3. Newest Philips in sig uses dp or hdmi

Monitor 1 using dvi would blank out and not restart until hard boot when installing windows, could also access bios.

I never thought to try monitor 2 because it is my wife's now for work and isn't as good as my Philips. But I was able to install Windows using an hdmi cable and access the bios. Also I am able to use a dp cable to access bios and installed windows.

Monitor 3, dp cable I'm able to see windows and not bios and hdmi cable doesn't show anything.

WTF?... I've tried multiple times and same results. Now I really want to be able to use my newer Philips monitor not my old 40" copycat monitor.

And my Philips worked fine dp cable in my old system.

What's the deal?

Wonder if its the cable spec how old is it or a setting in the monitor an old dell monitor i had you had to switch to which output you wanted

Well when I bought this dp cable, was a year ago bought the best I could get and it did make a difference ie my old dp cable didn't work with my now gone 5700xt. I tried switching the output on my new monitor to see the bios or get the hdmi cable to work but didn't do anything. I have my old dp cable I can try.

I noticed on the msi compatibility list it doesn't list a 970gtx but there are many items not listed including my Nvme drive that is working.
