New NUC, HD5000, 4x USB 3.0, infrared sensor

Yeah spotted that 208 for the nuc and instock, that 280 one was out of stock.

Good price on the ram actually after the drop and refund.

I won't consider this nuc if the p/s buzzes or gives off a freaky electrical noise but I tihnk considering this thing idles @ 5watts and barely hits 30watts even with furmark/3dmark and stress test maxxed it is very impressive in terms of power draw.

A passive case would be awesome also !

Ok checked a bit more regarding the driver issue:

Additional Notes

If the Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) driver has not been successfully installed, you may see an error on a "PCI Simple Communications Controller" in Device Manager.

Intel® Management Engine driver Driver for intel Nuc, give that a go

Thanks R3X, it was indeed the Intel Management Engine, I had skipped that from the driver pack thinking it was just some extra software rather than a driver.

To answer your question about the power brick, if I put it right up to my ear I can hear some electrical buzzing both when the NUC is off and when it is on. However I really don't think it is loud enough to be heard normally and believe me I've heard many buzzing power bricks before, this is nowhere near the worst.

Thanks for making that clearer glad the driver is sorted hate missing drivers!

Do you think you would hear the buzzing noise say 1 meter away ? I literally sleep 1 meter away from my PC so any noise can really put me off sleeping.

Sorry didn't check the board for ages. Was going to say Omar about the Intel Management Engine seemed to sort out the last missing driver for me, but seems looks like you got it all sorted. R3X I would say exactly the same, power brick isn't noticeable until you put it near your ear. NUC Fan I wouldn't say it loud but def noticeable.

But on that note I see another fanless case is being released "Akasa Newton H". Probably be slightly cheaper than the Tranquil case.

Out of the fanless cases that have been announced I think I'm leaning towards the Streacom NC1, it seems to have a decent setup for internal wifi aerials because the sides of the case are acrylic and the Streacom aerials are only around £8.

I'm guessing pricing for the Haswell one should be similar to the current ones at around £70, so under £80 including the wifi antennas vs £120 + an unknown amount for an external antenna for the Tranquil.

Could anyone recommend a 8GB or a 4GB CL9 1600 1.35v kit for this NUC? I'm looking at part number Part #: CT2KIT51264BF160B but this is CL11. Given the HD5000 shares RAM I take it there is a performance hit? Is it significant?

Streacom NC1 looks nice but with NC2 and NC3 coming soon and NC2 supporting the 2.5 sata makes it a large bonus.

thx d4nx-c and omar, yeah that is my main pickle I plan on making it 100% silent with NC2/3 or Akasa case etc.Hopefully even with complete silence that p/s buzz cant be heard.

Did you get your unit? Is it the correct model?

Really really late, but yes I did receive it on the Saturday and it was the correct model. They only got like 3 in stock and since I ordered as soon as they came up I got one.

Seem like there are loads around now so this is irrelevant now :P.

So far, I really like mine :D

It looks like the board-only version is now available in the UK too: D54250WYB. Looks to be around £30-£40 less than the kit version but it's not clear whether a power brick is included so probably not a great deal unless you're going to put it straight into a fanless case. It looks like the Consumer IR port is build in to the front panel of the board though.

I wonder what the NC3 case will be like, think I might wait to pick a fanless case to see what comes out early next year hmmm

Thanks for the link to the RAM Omar, that seems to do the trick.

Looks like the i5's are out of stock again. No biggie I'm not in a rush.

A few questions I wonder if you guys have managed to cover yet:

1. Any issues with XBMC?
2. Does it wake up from sleep from USB wireless input (keyboard/mouse)
3. Anyone tested WOL from sleep?

1. Any issues with XBMC?

Windows:

Since the latest drivers Windows 7 has been updated to the same state as Windows 8. The majority of problems with XBMC and haswell (NUC) seem to have gone, though any VC-1 encoded videos are still a problem. They either don't play correctly (odd colors) or don't even play at all. Not sure whether this will be fixed and if it is how long it will take.

Linux:
Linux is actually having more trouble with the new nuc than windows. At launch the colors were displaying wrong and the IR remote was not working. A lot of this has begun to be fixed but I think it is still a work in progress.

If you want to know more about XBMC and the haswell NUC, I highly suggest (especially if you plan on running a Linux build) to head over to the XBMC forums hardware section and check out the thread 'Intel NUC - HTPC (Haswell Late 2013 edition)'. Not sure if I can directly link it. Its a long read but from about page 10 is when it 'launched' in the US. Definitely need to skim over it if you plan on running any Linux build, Windows is pretty straight forward.

WOL works fine for me. Options for this in the BIOS.
Have installed xbmc and no issues so far but haven't tested it fully to be fair.
Unsure if it will wake up from wireless.

One other thing I just wanted to say was the speed of this thing. I have an old dual core 1.3 intel processor laptop with a solid state which is so slow, its 3 years old mind u. I know this processor turbo boosts up to 2.3 but still amazed how snappy it is. Boots so fast aswell. Very Very pleased and highly recommended.

Well I pulled the trigger on a i5, 128 mSATA, 8GB RAM, Win 8.1 :) Let the stock waiting game begin! :)

How did you guys install the OS, USB Drive?
