New Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II - The perfect camera???

Damn you King and your logic!!!!!!!!!!

I was all set to order it this morning. I have read up about all the viable alternatives to it and realised that nothing else comes close to the main reasons I picked the olympus in the first place. The fact I have it with me 99% of the time due to its size and weight and as an overall package it always gets me "a photo" with the exception of fast moving targets currently.

yes there may be bigger, high megapixel sensors out there which would be better for landscapes etc but then I wouldnt have the camera with me as much. I have looked at D500, D7200 all the Sony A7 range and the new Fuji but all of them have things which are worse than my current olympus body never mind the new one. The closest I got to an alternative would be the Fuji xt2 but then I realised that in selling all my lenses and buying the fuji I probably wouldnt have a camera which took any better pics than the EM1 and would cost me the same. Plus there seems to be some gaps in the Fuji lens range atm.

I have even shot video in the worst pouring rain without even thinking twice about it.

The new features of the new body will mean that all the shots i currently miss would be fine with a boost to DR and image.

Figured out that with selling my current body and my 75mm which i dont use plus all the clearout stuff I have sold recently I only need to put around £300 to this body to upgrade.

My head knows you are right but my heart says otherwise!

Do it you know it makes sense and i have just seen perfectly reasonable handheld shots at 15s with only using ibis and not a combination of lens and ibis that is huge improvement on my omd em1

I must be mad, just pre-ordered this morning. No going back now! :D

Decided to sell the 75mm to part fund it.

I can see pre-order buyers remorse setting in before tonight :D

to be fair the 12 mths interest free everybody is offering swung it. After my parts exs its only a £100 a mth.

got the grip and an extra battery too.

Going to park cameras tomorrow olympus event omd em1 mk2 ,not bothered about grip but spare battery will be a must .
Glad you made the right choice although i doubt we will see (own)the camera until 2017
omd em1 mk2 manual is for download

yes correct had a little play today rep said it will be available 15-16th dec ,camera looks good although a bit of same as the old boss, evf same as the old em-1 a bit disappointing although the blackout is gone in high frame 10fps with mechanical shutter should be good for action ,grip is improved battery is expensive ordered a spare £74, af lightning quick although on m43 it always was ,cluster af looks interesting for tracking c-af etc although i had nothing in the shop to track rep would not let me take it outside wish i had bought my 100-400mm along to try as well the 2 new lenses are well made the zoom on the 12-100mm is buttery smooth ,and both af quick very good close focus on 12-100mm i would say about 6 inches on the long end 100mm ,

New 12-100 lense has min focus of just 15mm from end of lense and 0.6 magnification so pretty decent to use as a macro lens for people who want to play around with it.

Nothing wrong with the old Evf Imo and it's now 120hz so that's a step up.

Did rep say there would be enough for all pre orders in mid decemeber? From all the things I've seen Olympus say it's limited small numbers mid December and most people won't get their camera until January unless you were at the top of the pre order list?

Hope mine comes mid Dec. Shame about the date though, I'm on a photo shoot on the 15th and was hoping to use it

Shame about the price.

I hate to draw a comparison to full frame bodies, as MFT is a great form factor with so many options in a great package. But, that price is nuts.

Yeah, the yen exchange rate been 23% worse than when the mark I came out doesn't help.

Without that it would rob ably have have been around £1500

No he did not say limited numbers but mentioned that he will not be filling the shops with full stock so in other words limited stock ,i have had mine on back order since it was announced,so should be one of the first.

as m43 users we know the trade off with smaller sensors ,and the price is a lot but you pay £1500 for bridge camera(sony) so obviously sensor size is not the defining cost you think it is.

Yeah very little between MFT and APS now. Makes me a bit happier with my pre order.

My part ex of EM5 Mark II plus grip and my 75mm F1.8 gets me £1000 off the new body so I am a bit happier again with that.

Once I have sold my drone I'll only be £300 to £400 short,

Aren't you going to sell your current body to fund it as well? or were you going to keep 2 bodies?

lol no chance!

Selling my em5 mark ii body, the grip and the 75mm f1.8 which I dont use although its a stunning lens so be sad to see it go but needs must. Been quoted a part ex price of £1000 in total which isnt bad. Still got 3 genuine Olympus batteries to sell online as they wont buy them so that will get me a bit more.

Selling on Ebay I could probably get a £100 to £200 more, less fees and the risk of being scammed.

Got offered £20 more for my body than I bought it used for (and I bought it with 4 batteries which they only will take one) and was offered £10 more than my grip cost as well. SO cant complain its been cheap ownership for just over a year. Will be taking a £100 hit on the 75mm lens though :(

Might try them on MM nearer the time, you never know.

Got offered more my for my EM5 mark ii body than they offer for a EM1 mark I body as part ex which says a lot.

Then after a few monhts i might part ex my 12-40 pro for the 12-100 and also my 25mm f.18 for the 25mm f1.2

Will leave me with the following set up then

12-100 f4 pro
40-150 f2.8 pro
1.4 teleconvertor
7.5 f3.6 Samyang fisheye
45mm F1.8
25mm F1.2
Set of macro extension tubes

Should have me pretty covered in all areas. :)

Maybe add something in the none fisheye wide angle range at some point.

That is the thing with camera gear. I purchased an 80-200mm f/2.8 from a 2nd hand camera shop, sold it back to the shop 3 years later for $50 more than i purchased it for form them! You have to look at ownership costs rather than ticket prices. Cameras tend not to do too well but if you flip camera bodies quickly enough then as you found out it can still work out nicely.
