New Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II - The perfect camera???

£1700 to £1800 is looking mroe likely.

Olympus have said the reason its more money than the Mark i is that the exchange rate is 23% worse then when the mark 1 was launched plus the sensor is much more expensive and wages have gone up.

Seems like they are already defending an increase much bigger than the 23% exchange rate one,

 Just seen a website with a "leaked" US price of $2242.94 :(

Thats £1831 in sterling. Not sure if that is then plus VAT as well?

If it is, I don't care how good it is, its not worth £2,200.

I may like the size of the m4/3 system but at £2,200 for a body I would rather jump ship to a bigger sensor and go Fuji or even Sony. You can get a A7II for that money now.

I think you are probably missing the point. People don't buy in to the m43 system because its cheap because of the smaller sensor, so price comparisons to their cameras with larger sensors is irrelevant really. The comparisons need to be made on performance such as Auto-focus, IS, speed, focus tracking, ergonomics, build quality, lens choices, system size, EVF, battery life etc.

This is their top end model, you want to be comparing it to the likes of the Nikon D5 or Canon 1DXII. This camera is relatively cheap for the performance it provides IMO.

The biggest issue for me is not the price but the size and weight. Once you add the pro f/2.8 zooms and so on you end up with a system size where a small DX camera would be similar.

£1849 it is then officially.

Hopefully that will come down a few hundred pounds in the next few months but still too pricy for me. :(

Not sure it will stand comparison with the 1dx2

It will mostly come down to the continuous auto-focus speed and accuracy, tracking, 3D AF, etc. M43 has had superb static AF for years and years but contrast based AF doesn't lend itself to fast 3D tracking, and on-sensors PDAF is a long way form the dedicated AF modules that DSLRs have.

Not so sure about it being worth £300 over the A6500. On paper the a6500 beats it in many areas plus the gap is £400 so even worse, that would buy you a decent lens to go with it.

If it wasnt for the shortage of lenses for the Sony i swap to that in a heartbeat.

Well its selling well. Amazon has it listed as no 1 seller in mirrorless cameras and 3rd in interchangeable lens cameras.

Thats a lot of them sold...................

Well people who have invested in m43 glass or more exotic 43 glass have little choice if you have spent 4-5k on 43 f2 and f2.8 zooms and primes you will not be thinking much about £300-400 over apsc equivalent.

Well i am thinking exactly that!

I have spent £3k on prime and pro lenses but bought smartly and all were used purchases. Was looking at spending another £1k but now I am not so sure that i wouldnt be better off selling the lot and investing the £4k (or £5.5k with the cost diff between my current body and the new one) in a new system with bigger sensor, again buying the lens second hand to maximize my spending power.

£5.5k will get me an awful lot of nice glass for a different camera system..................

And you'll suffer the exact same problem when you realize prices have jumped up yet again.

Well you might be all depends on your output if you are not making prints larger than A2 or your business dictates you need more then yes but if all you do is post pictures on web then forget it you will not notice until pixel peeping

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH I now have had this camera in my checkout basket 3 times today!!!!

Just forget about it for a few months, get out and use your current kit as much as possible and see if it really is limiting you. You have classic GAS :p

Would spending £1800 on a body get you better shots than spending £1800 visiting amazing places on your next holiday?
