New pc time

Would the switch over to AM5 give me better performance/longevity.
Don't mind stretching the budget a little to improve the graphics card if I go down this route, knowing it'll last me a fair few years.
RX 6800 would be the biggest improvement for games, I think, but the 5700X would be good for everything else.

You could also use it to push yourself onto AM5 (6650 is a bit weak for 1440p, but would do for casual gaming)

BitFenix Nova Mesh A-RGB Midi-Tower Case - Black Window - £69.95
Phanteks AMP 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - £109.99
Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 AIO CPU Cooler - 240mm - £56.99

WD Black SN770 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0E) - £82.99

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Six Core 5.30GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £299.99
Asrock B650M PG Riptide (Socket AM5) DDR5 Micro-ATX Motherboard - £179.99
TeamGroup Vulcan 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-44800C36 5600MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (FLBD532G5600HC36BDC01) - £139.99

Gigabyte Radeon RX 6650 XT Eagle 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £308.99

Grand Total: £1,262.08

It's hard to say really, it depends what your needs are and how well they'll be satisfied by the 5600 or 5700X. You could easily pay the extra for AM5 and never upgrade the CPU in the life of the system.

Another option is that Intel just released B760 and new CPUs today, so you could get e.g. B760 motherboard & an i5-13400.

basically just casual use so internet browing etc, no editing or anything. Idea was to use the pc for more single player gaming flight sim/ racing games etc and carry on using ps5 for multi (as friends all have ps5).
I'd rather pay slightly more now then have to look at upgrading in the near future.

For the former I'd say "who cares, then" and just get whatever is good value now (and that's AM4, if we're honest), but the latter (particularly flight sims, but racing also) tend to be very demanding on the PC and the ability to upgrade could come in handy (those are also games that seem to like X3Ds). It's not an easy one. If AMD hurry up with the non-X CPUs it would help, because £300 is a lot for a 7600X.

i am very tempted to change the gpu to the 6750xt and pay that little bit more at it and go with

1 x BitFenix Nova Mesh A-RGB Midi-Tower Case - Black Window - £69.95
1 x Phanteks AMP 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - £109.99
1 x Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 AIO CPU Cooler - 240mm - £56.99
1 x WD Black SN770 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0E) - £82.99
1 x Gigabyte Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming OC 12GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £458.99
1 x AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Six Core 5.30GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £299.99
1 x Asrock B650M PG Riptide (Socket AM5) DDR5 Micro-ATX Motherboard - £179.99

Total = £1398.88

i'd be happy at that price if it means
a) i dont have to look at upgrading for a few years.
b) i will be in a better position regarding upgrade options in the future.

b) We don't know for sure, is the truth, but first gen AM4 owners can for example; go from a 1600X, to a 5600X and the upgrade (with the right graphics card) is huge (video with a 3090, which is sometimes the bottleneck). If AM5 goes the same way, then it might well pay off in a few years.
a) You mean, compared to a 5600 & 6650? That's also hard to say, but it is a decent bump in performance (and 1440p is still fairly demanding), so I think it's conceivable that it'll hold on for a bit longer (before no longer being viable).

Its such a big minefield to make what feels like is the right decision.

There is no right or wrong decision money and need dictates if you can stretch then AM5 offers longevity. Remember the 5000 series cpu will still last a long time.

The above build you quoted is a solid choice but you need to check if the cooler is AM5 compatable.

Invest a bit more now to give you more potential opportunity to upgrade and save money in the future.

Your right, looking at the specs its doesn't mention AM5. Will have to look at an alternative.

Other then that, I think with the help and info of you guys. Am going go AM5 route. With the above build.

having a look and not sure which cooler is ideal.
there is this one available https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cool...0l-v2-rgb-aio-cpu-cooler-120mm-hs-089-cm.html

is that suitable do you know ? or can you recommend one please?

Although i have been on the cool master site and it provides the following information for the masterliquid lite 240 (MLW-D24M-A20PW-R1), cpu socket LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA2066, LGA2011-v3, LGA2011, LGA1151, LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156, AM5, AM4, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2, FM2+, FM2, FM1
and then further down and under notes it states, It's compatible with AMD AM5 although the package may not stress it.

so am not sure now and maybe it does cover AM5 ?

I wouldnt go for a 120mm aio there to noisy , you have the room for a 240mm at the top if you go for the case I specced. All theese coolers say AM5 compatable but still check with Overclockers to confirm.

My basket at OcUK:
Total: £258.67 (includes delivery: £8.70)

Yeah will prob go for your suggested case, although in all white, then the dark colours internally should help match the ps5 itll be sat next to.

Have sent a support ticket to ask about the cooler master masterliquid AM5 compatibility.

Wise move.

I've been looking into AM5 compatabilty and apparently it's the same mounting holes as AM4 but because the new 7000 cpu are taller in height the screws to attach the cooler may not be long enough.

@Tetras do you know the situation with AM4 to AM5 compatable coolers ?

I don't, but from a quick browse of manufacturer websites, it looks like if they use the board's standard backplate/fittings, then they're more likely to be compatible than if they replace them with their own. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to look at a cooler and say "yup, that's fine" or "nope".

Tx.

Theres an AM5 coolers section on Overclockers noticed it while researching.

ill have a browse through this whilst i await the response from overclockers team..
Next step whilst i wait, is a monitor lol. totally forgot about looking for one to replace the old hd tv i currently use.

What size and resoloution?

Remind me what graphics card your getting.

Well I've had confirmation from Overclockers team that the cooler master masterliquid lite 240 is compatible with AM5, so thats that sorted.

Now just to look at monitors ? How good are curved ones for gaming ? Or is it down to personal preference
