New pc time

Not too sure I'd be paying over £500 for a 32" 1, 165hz 440p VA panel this day and age. It's hdr400, which means it's not really hdr

i'd go something like the gigabyte if you want va, or if you want to spend £500, you can get the G7 for £529 atm..it's HDR600 (bare minimum for hdr)so will be slightly better, but really you want hdr1000 or above. it at least has a 240hz refresh rate though

Hardware unboxed a good place to go for monitor reviews, or monitor unboxed..they just done a vid on all the monitors they've reviewed in last year and ranked, though they also did another for best at certain price point, though admit a lot of variation depending on geographical location, so give a couple of recommendations.

To be honest, I looked at the same thing recently, but ended up going for a 42" LG C2 oled..it was a present for my son but wanted true blacks, hdr, no smearing, and it's dropped from £1400 to £800..can use a a tv, decent size, just drop resolution if you want 1440p gaming and gpu can't handle 4k..but 6800xt should be ok at 4k too for some games..can change size to 3440 v 1440 to play ultrawide, or 3840v1600(can't quite remember that resolution)..anyway..picture is fantastic, response time instantanious, and 120hz good enough with the pixel response..just a though, though admittidly over your budget

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £889.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

well you'll be glad to now everything is ordered and on it's way. Only thing i changed from above is the monitor, as the Benq went up in price. So went for the Msi Artymis 323cqr which seems to get good reviews. But worse case, i hate it send it back and look for something else.

Seems to have been a very long 1 year and 4 months. But i will like to thank @Tetras @Craig_d1 and @mickyflinn you've all been great with your helpful input and also your patience in helping me choose.

now, time to watch some build videos :)
Keep us informed and post apic when your done, read the motherboard manual it will walk you the build.

fair point, i did look at the G7 but couldnt see it for anything less then £550. Picked the MSI up for £400.
budget has been stretched and stretched and couldn't go any further. I'd have loved a slightly better monitor and love oled's as i've had my LG C9 for a while now. but budget didn't allow. although i will prob keep this monitor for a year or two until more oled monitors maybe come available.

yeah, deffo will do. I've sort of enjoyed doing the research and even more excited to get everything together and put the build together

Well, started the build. Going nice and steady, coming along nicely and then noticed this on the aio as I took it out the packaging :-( looks like something has pressed against it as the white protective box covering it is also damaged.

Is it okay to use ? Or send back for a replacement. This was purchased from overclockers.

That's a tad annoying. As far as I know the liquid travels through the horizontal thicker bars of the rad, the wavy fins are used for heat dissipation as the fans blow over them. So overall shouldn't really impact performance. I'd phone ocuk though and send them photo so they can see. They should really change it for you, or you should ask for money off. You wont see it of course as fans will mount over rad. Zooming in, just check the horizontal part that carries water as bent on edge..shouldn't impactvwater flow, just dont want hairline crack or anything that could cause leak..looks ok from photo, but check.
Up to you if will irritate you, as will delay your build, but just be happy, more important. You're spending a decent amount of money building a pc, so if you're not happy, def phone up about it

Yeah, am going to send a webticket in with some photos then follow up tomorrow when their open with a phone call.

Took some closer photos, so will see what OC say tomorrow.

spoke with OC today, sent the cooler back and they are going to post one as soon as they check the damage. So hopefully should be here by end of week.

Well a few strong words and a lot of time later, the build is complete. Well nearly.

Watched a lot of videos and scrolled through the Internet whilst building. One problem I encountered is that whilst you gain information from different sources, you then have to adapt to your own build an at times I didn't. So take the aio cooler, followed the instal video on you tube, then released id blocked off access to various ports on motherboard I needed to use as am top mounted. So fans where coming off/on throughout the build lol.

Mostly it went pretty straight forward, well apart from the fans. I had a pretty horrid time, it took me a while to get my head around all the wires and the fact d-rgb and a-rgb are the same.

Had what I thought everything sorted, so went for a boot into bios and pressed the power button. Nothing was happening for what seemed like an age, but then remember seeing something about a long boot time for the first turn on in am5.
But that wasn't the end, aio fans were spinning but no rgb. The front fans and rear fan neither spun or had rgb. So I started on sorting rgb out and stripped and reconnected everything to get that sorted. Well sort off.

There's two jargb v2 on the motherboard, if I connect fans in one and the powercooler 6800xt into the other as I can't reach to daisy chain. It knocks the rgb out to the fans. Can you only use one at a time ? Am not too bothered about rfb to gpu if am honest. I like it been red as it is, so probably won't change it.

Then, back to getting the fans sorted. I realised I made a pretty big mistake. I'd totally forgot to plug the fans into the sys fan slots, so had fun sorting all them out.

Anyway, managed to fix my errors and got booted all fine into bios, noticed the ram was running low mhz so another video watched and xmd turned on put the ram upto 5600mhz.

Installed windows 11 etc all fine and got drivers etc running nicely. So was using the computer fine and then noticed the gpu fans weren't spinning. Am guessing its designed that way for power consumption maybe? Another video later (YouTube is ace for information) and downloaded radeon, giving me the software to custom the gpu fans so at least there slowly spinning whilst pc is on the build up as gpu temps rise.

So am upto where I thought I'd be, having to play with settings etc to fine tune everything and have a proper play with the pc.

Also have connected the pc to my hisense 4k TV (hdmi). So aim is gaming monitor when pc gaming (dp). Then if am on ps5 I can use the gaming monitor (hdmi) then the hisense for pc stuff.

I will need a gpu support as it has a little sag, but I've created a temp one for meanwhile.

I am glad the build went ...well it got done. As you now know there is only so much advice we can give on here and you just have to follow the instructions you have and work through the problems. The good news is that the next time you do this is a piece of cake and you will see the problems coming before you make a mistake

We all hate RGB and it is just a case of getting it to work the best you can, total mess and it is all on the industry and not us. Fans on a lot of gpus have a 0 rpm mode , in general desktop use the gpu will be using under 30w so the heatsink will work passively. If you have worked out how to set custom fan curves then have a play with it but with that massive heatsink it should be almost silent at all times.

defiantly learnt a lot along the way and can take knowledge into another build/upgrade.

yeah, the whole rgb/argb (d-rgb) just seems a complicated mess. Although i do actually like it to some sort of extent.
Gpu fans, is it better to have them slightly spinning on low work rate rather then waiting for them to kick in under workload?.

It just does not matter that much so just go with whatever you like. If the gpu core is under 60 C then there is no reason to have the fans spinning but if it gives you peace of mind feel free to have them running and therefore have lower idle temps.

Ah sweet. Thanks for the info. I'll leave them spinning for now.
I did have a blast on forza horizon 5 (set at extreme settings) for 20/30mins and ran msi afterburner just to see what was happening. GPU1 and GPU2 temps never went above 40'c with a GPU Usage at 88%.

Msi afterburner is good but i prefer to use HWinfo or HWmonitor and see how much power the gpu is using. 6800xt tops out at around 280w iirc so if you were using close to that amount of power and were still in the 40s then great. No idea if you could hear the fans but if you can hear them you can always turn them down, anything under 60 or even 70 is very low for a gpu so you have a huge amount of room to play with fan settings if you so desire.
