New road bike advice

I'm sure everyone will ignore the TdF and watch the Tour of Austria instead to see these Cubes in action!

You do realise that Wanty are wildcard entry for the TdF this year, right? So these non premium Cubes will officially reach the ranks of being good enough for OcUK sportive warriors :D:D:D:D

He is stating what shimano say to be fair.

Shimano say loads of things don't work but they will work fine.

Newer short cases can take up to 30 with the longer cage being recommended for the 32.

You end up exceeding the total capacity of the rear mechs ability to take up chain slack with a compact and an 11-32. You shouldn't ride small with smallest anyway.

This!

For most road riding you'd not notice it, only when really smashing it up or over very rough (thinking CX) you'd ever have an issue. Recommended and Actual functionality are two different things and just to protect a manufacturer the majority of the time.

Exactly. Colnago wasnt in the mens pro peleton last year and I dont think anyone would argue that Colnagos arent a premium brand
Premium brand? - historically maybe but their current stuff looks old.

It will be good to see how they get on :)

all sponsoring a pro team shows is that the company has a sizable marketing budget ;)
Yep – but it’s also good to know that your hard earned money has been spent on frames and components which are/have been tested at the highest level. i.e. although large amounts of money change hands teams wouldn't use a product if it didn't work, at any price.

Yeah, but there is still so much covering up going on where they dont take what their sponsored manufacturer makes and use alternatives. Brakes, Tyres, Wheels, Pedals, occasions of frames in the past but not so much recently.

Admittedly the C60 looks like it's old fashioned because of the tube and lugs but nearly all the reviews I've seen written about the C60 rates it as one of the best riding bikes available. Also there's nothing old looking about their aero bike the Concept.

I work in a bike shop.
Do you?
Calling Halfrauds a 'Bike Shop' is quite a stretch. They're just a retail place that happens to sell a few bikes alongside everything else. The same way Asda are an 'Electronics Shop'.
prefer megaexo over pressfit.
Good luck buying any current off the shelf bike with a magaexo bb. Or anything from Halfords for that matter! ;)

I'm not arguing that pressfit is good, just the availability of others is currently limited (outside of build your own type framesets).

As we're all riding the exact frame types used by the pro teams... Oh wait...! ;)

Thanks again for the advice everyone. In the end I went sensible and under budget. Ordered this last Thursday:

https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/ultimate/2016/ultimate-cf-sl-7-0.html

It's a nice light bike and I'm happy with 105 after reading various reviews that state the current 105 is very close in performance to Ultegra.

Looks like I have avoided the Canyon delivery issues, it's being shipped today by UPS.

I'm changing the wheels, as the Mavic ones are entry level and quite heavy. Ordered some of these:

nice one - those wheels get an excellent write up generally

Thanks, the wheels look great value to me. Still waiting for them but the bike has arrived and I've been for a couple of rides. It's incredibly light already, even before I've upgraded the wheels.

By far the best bike I've ever ridden, light, fast and great ride quality. Would highly recommend Canyon, I don't know how they do it for the price I paid.
