New ROBOCOP

Has anyone read the interview with Paul Verhoeven, such a great read on how he came about making the movie and his views on the remake of 2 of his films so far.

Think it was in Total Film.

Edit - can't find it online, but he wasn't happy. Still I don't think many people appreciate that the original robocop is more than a cheesy action flick. The way he takes the **** out of America slaps you in the face at points.

This looks rubbish, the robocop suit looks rubbish.

I'll still go and see it just for the lulz...unless by some miracle this turns out to be a huge hit but they need to sort that suit out.

Very "hi-tech"... but missing the raw violence and satire of the original. We will see if anything makes this version stand out.

I think I'll watch the original tonight.

I'd be quite looking forward to this if it was an original film.

It just seems blasphemy to remake a classic and it will lack the satire that made the 26 year old (christ I feel old) original great.

I don't like the change to Murphy getting his injuries by being blown up either. Far too simplistic a scene compared to how he died in the original.

Hollywood, come up with something original please.

Only plus points are that Aimee Garcia and Jennifer Ehle are in it. :)

Part of the horror of the original was how he almost wasn't the same person once they brought him back - his old life was almost like a mostly-forgotten dream to him. Rather than 'breaking his programming' he just became more human as he remembered more. That bit where he says 'What did you do to me?' leads me to believe that this whole premise has been effectively dispensed with.

Maybe they've replaced it with something else to keep our attention, but this looks like it tips more toward sci-fi than horror now, which means it's likely to follow in the footsteps of the Total Recall remake. :(

Indeed! That was part of the cool aspect of the film... The machine was slowly fighting to become (more) human again!

I don't care who's in it, I don't care how good the CGi is and I don't care if the story remains loyal to the original or not. You do not remake one of the most violent films ever made for a PG-13 audience

It's looking awful.

Part of the Robocop theme was the crucifixion scene, then being raised from the dead.
Now we have a PG friendly car explosion, so now disturbing death scene, not even an attempt at it. The resurrection bit was done well, you got the feeling he was treated like a piece of meat " loose the arm", i remember that when he was watching them, that bit gave me chills. Now, well it looks like he has a human arm, how that physically meant to work I dont know, also when he is "awoken" and he bounces up and shouts " what have you done to me" in an utterly human way, you can remove any of the fun, that was working out weather their was anything of Murphy left as a person under the suit, till it revealed slowly as his humanity comes back to him.

The also ridiculous transformer helmet, so we know what the means, no mystery at all of what's UNDER the helmet for about 2/3 rds of the film, as hell have that flipped back for EVERY human interaction scene.

Well after seeing that trailer, I'm reminded of the recent Total Recall remake. Ditch the satire and OTT violence, for what? A nice family friendly afternoon out at the cinema. Hollywood's continuing trend of trashing classic films in order to make money because it has run out of ideas makes me sad.
