Wasn't the whole point of ED-209 to be a military robot? They rushed them into police service even though they were crap, because they wanted to secure a contract with the military.
Part of the horror of the original was how he almost wasn't the same person once they brought him back - his old life was almost like a mostly-forgotten dream to him. Rather than 'breaking his programming' he just became more human as he remembered more. That bit where he says 'What did you do to me?' leads me to believe that this whole premise has been effectively dispensed with.
Maybe they've replaced it with something else to keep our attention, but this looks like it tips more toward sci-fi than horror now, which means it's likely to follow in the footsteps of the Total Recall remake.![]()
