Looking to replace my SB75G2 and was looking at either the SD37p2 or a Sugo and mATX board.

which would be the better option and why.

Looking to put 2 320gb Sata drives in there, along with 2gb, and an ATA X1950 GFX card.

Thanks

Sugo and mATX board : For sex appeal yes ! Is a great option for upgrades et al However getting a decent overclockers mATX board is a challenge.

Shuttle good all in one package but lacks upgrade options / are very pricey.

Overclocking is fine as long as you don't buy a C2D! ;)

agreed, there are no c2d matx solutions available to date that offer any more than 320-333 fsb overclocks, based upon "trusted" reports

I currently have an e4300 "languishing" in a Sugo at default clocks in an MSI matx board, but at least I can overclock the memory :)

Yup, i've got all my parts ready, just waiting for that overclocking board (currently using Conroe945G-DVI)

tbh I'm seriously considering getting a Lian Li 600 [small ATX tower] and a proper clocking atx mobo for this 4300, and using a t2300 dual core mobile cpu that I have left over from an upgrade, to stick in the Sugo box

I can feel your pain, however the way I see it is that my E6600 can still demolish Pi 1M in 20s flat, and that's pretty flippin fast.

In most games i'm GPU limited anyway.

Kinda ? But things have changed.

I got a got 25% overclock on the E6300 in my Sugo with the cheapo Asrock Conroe-DVI board.

However replace the E6300 with an E4300 and you're looking at 2.5ghz and if you're very lucky a max of 2.7.... Check through the threads I believe some are claiming these overclocks.

my 4300 clocked to 400fsb [3.6] with corsair vs ram does it in 16secs :(, thats why I'm so annoyed atm

i would go with the sugo but that's only coz i have 1 :)

you have 2 options really.

going the sugo way saves you money in the long run, ie you can
upgrade any time in the future.

but going the shuttle way, is a nice move as they do some great sff systems
but at a price.

in the end its down to what you want out of the system and what your willing
to pay.

or a full ATX board in a compact case....

Antec Lanboy is ugly, but i dug it up from my mates spare pile.

Weighs next to nothing after my P180, its very compact too.

I know there are even smaller ATX systems which are wider, to accomodate the PSU at the front of the PC where you'd expect the HDDs.

The space saved at the top means the case is only as tall an ATX mobo.

So what's the concensus on what μATX :p board to couple with a 4300 to pass the time until something better is released?

probably the cheapest option is the Abit IP-95, it gave me some overclocking options [fsb and mem voltage only] and would let you use all your related kit if/when a good overclocking board arrives

I have my 1 week old Silver Sugo and IP-95 up for sale atm as I have decided I would rather have a Lian Li V600 case, so I'll keep my MSI matx board for the moment, and I have the option of a full atx if the matx board never appears.

Physically the dimensions on the Lian-Li don't look too much bigger than the Sugo.

Nah, the Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI is the best mATX Conroe board going, the overclocking options are limited, however some people on the Asrock forums have reported getting theirs stable at 315FSB. Not sure how, i've never got mine to POST past 290FSB. But you might get lucky.

But what sets this board apart from the others is that it's a really solid board, nice and stable. Can't fault it at stock settings, in fact I don't think it's ever crashed on me or given me problems.

If you're thinking of going full ATX for a while, then it depends how "flush" you're feeling. If you have the cash, then it's 680i. If you're on a budget, then try the Gigabyte DS3/DS4 or the Asus 650i board (P5N-E).

Well, i'm back from the shops, and after careful consideration i ended up with

Sugo SG01e
Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI
2GB Corsair Twinx 6400
Conroe E4300 Retail
Hiper Type-R 580W

Will be using my existing DVDRW, HDDS etc

Just need to source a cooler (Quiet) and GFX (Quiet one that offers good performance)

Thanks for all the advise guys ;)

retail cooler should be fine, does the hyper have a fan at bottom of psu ?, that would be beneficial

p.s. if you look at wja96 post in this forum it would appear the 4300 and an asrock isn't performing too well, i.e. falls over at 225fsb

After much head scratching i've decided to go for the following (any comments would be appreciated):

Sugo SG01 Black
NT06 Passive Cooler
520W Corsair PSU
ASrock Conroe945G-DVI
E6600 :)
Samsung 320gb
Samsung DVDRW SATA
2gb RAM

The only problem is the choice of RAM, what do people recommend - I don't really want to spend anymore than ~160-170.

Thanks, Pj
