New SFF Build - Sugo Or Shuttle??

All Built up and running. Not overclocked yet.

Need to find my way around the bios and have atinker this weekend.

Managed to get the 8800GTX and 3 hard drives in there.

Just need to put a Papst blowing overthe HDD's now,and i'm all done.

Also got a shuttle SD37P2 coming so i can compare and sell the one i dont want - otherwise i always end up thinking "what if".

NT06 Passive Cooler ?

also found the short throw nec drives better in the Sugo, that extra inch of clearance makes a big difference, looks like a normal depth one there, but kudos for getting 3 drives and a gtx in there, you will manage 3 in a shuttle, but I wouldn't recommend it as it blocks the rear fans

Ta!.

Also got a sd37p2 here, will be building that up in the morning and trying the e4300 and 8800 in there to see which i prefer.

whichever i dont like will be going up on MM tomorrow night.

I know i will lose money, but if it dont feel right, its gotta go :)

looks like the SD37 is the keeper. Just fits better in the space provided. no practical difference in the performance.

I am going to lose the flexability of the Sugo, but gain the slightly more compact size of the SD37.

Watch for the Hiper / Sugo / Asrock 945-DVI mobo going up on MM this weekend. :D ;) :D

Did you move the HDD cage back to fit the GTX in there?

My Sugo is coming in the next few days, but I've put off getting a gfx card for a month or so. I've heard that the 5.25" cage needs modifying too, however it doesn't look like you've cut anything out!

Was it just space that made you choose the shuttle over the Sugo? My current shuttle SG61 is an extremely tight squeeze with 2xHDD and DVD-RW with 6800 + TV Card, so I did want something will a little more room.

more to do with the space i have to put the case in in the computer room.

The 5.25" cage stayed as is and there is about 7mm clearance between the cage and card.

How well did the GFX fit in the Shuttle, it looks scary big ?

Snugly!

For me, there is no way i'd go to a Shuttle.

When I first got this rig and showed my Shuttle-owning friends, I got a few "that's not very small at all is it" remarks, including one from an Antec Aria owner.

The way I see it is that i've got miles more upgradibility. I can put whatever PSU I want in there, whatever mobo (mATX), whatever cooling, you get the drift.

So what if it's not as small? You know the smaller it is, the harder it is to keep cool right? And as graphics cards get bigger and hotter, something will have to give.

personally I found the Sugo [still have one with a dothan setup] pretty hard to keep cool with a big graphics card in there, without adding more fans. Also the build quality is pretty poor on the sugo [sharp edges internally, crappy mirror surround around the optical drives that I managed to snap on the 1st one by lifting there when building it :(]

I like my SD37P for the 4 ram slots, compactness, quietness and performance. Its also a bonus that the psu will run an 8800gtx and an overclocked c2d, cant really ask for more in my book. But it is a bit overpriced admittedly.

Each to their own, but as a side note I got my Lian Li v600 yesterday and although it is bigger than I expected compared to the Sugo, the build quality and attention to detail is miles ahead and costs effectively the same.

if i was gonna use a big gfx card that pumps out a lot of heat i would get 1 that pushs the heat out the back

just like the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC does using a 2nd pci slot to push out the heat. its just common sense really. and i would have the back 80mm fan to push what ever heats is left over

I'll second that, the build quality of Shuttles is very good, this is my first Shuttle and deffo not the last. Very impressed.

so why doesn't that theory work in my shuttle then

it all depends on what else you have in your system as well, not just the gfx card.
but in the end most sff cases aint built for high end hardware, you just
have to work around it some how. but im sure you know that :)

Did you try overclocking the E4300/Asrock combo? If so, did you have any luck?

Got it to 240 mhz before i stripped it down and moved the CPU to the shuttle.

Overclocking is not one of the asrocks strong points.

Hmmmm thats a bit poor ? You sure its 240 and not 340 ? ;)

Dang I would have thought it would have been easy to get this chip to 266 and 333 mhz in this albeit rubbish board. Any takers ?

my maiden post on OCUK.. yay
anyway having finally settled in London, and signed up at OCUK, I want to set up a box.
I have done some reading and the G-O seems to be

Sugo SG01 Black
ASrock Conroe945G-DVI
E6300
2gb RAM

i was thinking a 512MB XFX7950, i am an occasional pc gamer, since i have an 360 now, though i if i can get by on something cheaper all the better.
No idea whats happening with RAM nowadays, so recommend me something along with
DVD burner
PSU
Keyboard combo
wireless LAN adapter
and anything else to make me a sexy sff system.

cheers

Jon
