I have just recived my new vertex 2e bigfoot 120gb ssd and need advice on setting up the drive ,formating , partitioning etc

Running windows 7 64bit

Its my first ssd and dont want to **** it up . lol

setyour bios to AHCI

then there is nothing for you to do

just install it, install windows and it will do it all for you

Just like a normal hard drive ?
How about making a partition ,is it advised as i have read that it can cause a big performance drop ?

for that size i wouldnt make a partition

leave it as one big drive

do you have another drive for your data?

At the moment i have 2 x 1tb f3 in raid . I wanted to put os and programs on diffrent partitions .

When installing the ssd i will obviously have a data drive

imo yes, i dont see any benefit to having a seperate partition for your apps

the SSD is perfect for having the OS/and APPS for snappyness

and then store all your data/music/video/docs/pics/pron etc on your other drives

Right windows installed in 15mins . System is rebooting in under 25 seconds . Just about to start the tedious task of installing drivers, apps, windows updates etc etc

But so far so good;)
