New toy: E61

nice car, bet it's tons of fun

quick question though, is 507bhp enough to get to 205mph+ when the thing is shaped like a brick ?, I don't think so, and not sure the gearing would allow it anyway even without restriction.

You can't tell if it's aerodynamic just by looking at it.
Before the advent of wind tunnels, sports car manufacturers used to design what they thought were sleek shapes but were often terrible.....they just looked pretty.

Perfect for keeping the kids at the back quiet and in their seat, literally!

"no daddy not again NOT AGAIN! *vomits*"

Maybe not :p

I'd be very surprised if it can go much over 190mph with that combination of power and shape. Are there any sub 500bhp cars that'll do over 200mph? If so, I bet they don't have a flat back. That's what'll kill the BMWs aerodynamics.

Anyone got a list of all 200mph+ production cars?

Then you have no understanding of the car that is the M5. It will nudge 200mph without too much effort from its 7 speed box. Plus, it has a lower drag Coef than some super cars IIRC

I quite like that, very nice indeed. Looking at it I would have never guessed those figures, very impressive. Bet it goes like sloppy brown stuff off a shovel.

Can you support that? I'm curious to see which 'supercars' have a lower Cd than the M5.

I doubt the OP E61 will have a lower Cd than most modern 'supercars'

The Cd is probably pretty good, the saloon E90 is 0.30. The estate will always be a bit worse. What's the Cd of a 500mph 200mpg car though? I'd imagine the drag would have to be very low for 500bhp to be enough for 200mph.

The 2009 Ferrari California is discussed here:
http://www.jbcarpages.com/ferrari/california/2009/

It has a Cd of 0.32 which it says is 10% less than other Ferrari models. With this it manages to deliver a top speed of 192mph from 454bhp. So if the BMW here has slightly better Cd than the Ferrari and a bit more power, 200mph sounds feasible.

Estates are often more aerodynamic than the saloons
