New toy: E61

Power as in engine power converted to a force (which is the driver of top speed in a car assuming sensible gearing). Admittedly I called it power when it is infact the force you will be using. Manufacturers don't publish force of their car's unfortunately

All i was trying to say is that Cd isn't the only thing to consider when you want to know how fast a car will go!

You can get the force produced from the torque (which manufacturers give figures for) but torque is generally a better measurement of performance. Sorry for biting your head off - agreed about Cd * A for comparing cars! :)

Last time I checked my 150lb/ft car was faster than a 300lb/ft diesel.

Seriously do you actually understand what you are posting or are you just copying and pasting from somewhere. ? Last time I check it was my wheels that drove my car against the road and not the engine, tractive force is the input and can be calculated by plotting the tractive force curve of a vehicle in each gear. Ideally you want the maximum tractive force in the right sort of area for top speed, this is where my comment about sensible gearing came in.

Maximum tractive force changes in each gear due to the torque multiplication of the gearbox. It will go down as the gears get longer however you also need the gears to be long enough for the car otherwise you will be top speed limited by gearing rather than power

This has gone massively off topic, due to someone trying to show how much they know by googling something and then pasting it, in the effort to look like a clevercloggs. There was no need to get into this level of detail

Nice M5 :D I still remember waiting for a friend to pick me up one nightand hearing something coming down the road driven very hard, only to brake for the corner I was waiting at, flick the back end out, do a massive powerslide and then absolutely cane it down the road in a mint black m5. Sounded awesome :D

Are there any sub 500bhp cars that'll do over 200mph? If so, I bet they don't have a flat back.

Anyone got a list of all 200mph+ production cars?

Ones that spring to mind are

Ferrari F40/478hp/201mph (Cd 0.34 according to Wikipedia)
Lamborghini Diablo 492hp/202mph (Cd 0.31 again Wikipedia)

Morning. Thanks for raping my new car thread thread ;)
Maybe a kind mod can merge those drag talk posts into a new thread about drag...
The scratch looks worse in the picture. Not sure how much it would be to repaint it. I guess it wont be cheap.
I'll try to get some shots of the inside today. I'm driving 370 miles today, most on fairly empty motorways :D Must. not. lose. license.

Thanks for all the comments. Well, except the 1 page of maths ;)

A great car if not the best example (scratches of envy), generally, I hate estates and am not too great a fan of the looks of the current 5 series.

For that engine though, I'd put up with either!

500+ BHP is fun in an HGV never mind a little BMW, the mere fact people debate if the M5 can hit 200 says all you need to know of its performance.

Awesome car. Awesome awesome car. Shame about the scratch :(

Where's abouts in Sweden are you?

Parts of Sweden have fantastic twisty roads! I even enjoyed them in my Focus!

I'm based in the very south, outside the distinguished University town that is Lund. The county of Skåne has some very good twisty 55mph roads.

Driving up to Stockholm this afternoon. Nearly lost my license driving down three weeks ago :rolleyes:

What we looking at here? A 5 series with a couple of badges and some exhausts protruding so far you can graze your ankles on them. Looks boring to me, but I would seriously have one!

I've been to the Varnamo area. The roads were fantastic. The motorways are dull as **** though!!!

Drove through Denmark, over the bridge into Sweden aswell which was a fantastic drive :)
