Well here goes....I am going to post any questions and pictures about my new AMD Phenom II x4 computer/DAW build...if thats OK with the moderators and hopefully some of you experts can help me out. Approx. £500's worth of bits and pieces (more than my car cost me four years ago) that need assembling and firing up. Here is what I have:

AMD Phenom II x 4 cpu
Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AMD 785G
Corsair XMS3 4GB memory
Corsair TX 650w psu
Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP venom cpu cooling fan
Silverstone SST-PS03B Precision Midi Tower Case
M-Audio 2496

Just to tide you over a few minutes....
Why do they give you a fancy pull string cloth bag with the psu?

Any graphics card? or are you going to be use the integrated solution
Just hoping to use the integrated graphics untill i get it running then i'll add a graphics card.

O.k.
The case i have has the psu mounted at the base, there,s a fan cutout just below where the psu fits, which way does the psu mount does the fan point downwards to the vents so the heat is drawn in at the back of the psu and then sent out through the vent in the base of the computer?

Great thats the one does the fan point downwards to the bottom of the case up upwards?(i guess if it points upwards all bits and dust will fall into it?

O.K. psu has the power inlet/switch on the back and a vent, which goes to the back of the case. On bottom of the psu there is a large fan, i take it the fan goes to the bottom of the case where the case has holes drilled to let the air through, not the fan pointing up bank?

We're hoovering the carpet i think, i;ve mounted it with the fan to the floor. Haven't run the psu up but will have to alter it later if its wrong.

This is where I am at now...



Only thing I'm struggling with now is getting the drive bay blanking plates on the front, out of the case, I can't figure out how to get them out - no obvious tags, do they just clip in somehow. I'm worried about marking or breaking the front.

DVD drive is in and i clipped the I/O shield in the back.......







I moved the 2 HD drives from my old p4 machine, i was thinking i may buy one of the ssd drives when i get the machine going, are the ide drives going to cause a problem initially?

So is the next step to get the stand offs in place to mount the mobo. Do you usually mount the cpu and memory plus cooler on the board before screwing it in and wire afterwards?
Gee this cpu cooler is huge!

o.k. so far so good, standoffs are in, funny how the bottom right hand hole doesn't have a screw hole under it so is hanging a wee bit?......I have 4 memory slots (2 memory sticks) on the mobo, 2 white and 2 blue, is there any 2 slots i have to use, one in white and one in blue but inside/outer or both inner?:)

So far so good - cpu in, memory in.



Just making certain little arrow on cpu lines up with little arrow on mobo no force was required CPU just dropped into place?
