Newcastle United have parted company with manager Chris Hughton following a recent dip in the team's fortunes.

The Magpies were beaten 3-1 at West Brom on Saturday, a week after holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw, although that result followed a 5-1 defeat at Bolton.

Hughton guided Newcastle back into the Premier League this season after their relegation in the 2009-10 campaign.

Newcastle are currently 11th in the top flight, with five wins from 16 games - only two of those coming at home.

Rumours that the ex-Spurs defender was set to leave the club began circulating several weeks ago.

Is 11th such a bad position for a newly promoted side? Madness.

Who they gonna bring in? Keegan? Dowie? Not exactly many good managers out there without a club at the mo.

bah beaten to it

I didn't think Newcastle were doing too bad considering they only came up last season and are mid table

It's been way to quiet in Newcastle recently, some more Mike Ashley madness was due soon, but this is just mind blowing.

Shocking decision. Newcastle can't have hoped for much more at this stage of the season with the team they currently have!

I'm a Man Utd fan, but tbh I feel sorry for Hughton and Newcastle fans. He's done a cracking job taking them from where they were, winning the Championship by 11 points last season with over 100 points and then doing an admirable job so far this season.

Of course they weren't going to have an easy ride but they've beaten Villa 6-0, Sunderland 5-1 and also beaten Arsenal and drawn with Chelsea; the last two especially being no mean feat. I dont quite know what the Newcastle board expected this season, winning the PL?!

Terrible decision.

"Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward.

"The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a successor."

If he was doing any more Newcastle would be battling for Europe and they surely can't be expecting that after 3-4 months into their first season back
