Next England Manager? Next England Captain?

It'll all be for show, he'll 'assess' who the best captain is and come to the conclusion that Rooney is... the only way Rooney will lose the captaincy now is if he retires.

I think it will be a great shame if Rooney remains captain/part of the England first team.

He is not 'out of form', he has declined immensely as a footballer, and even in his pomp was overrated, god knows how much he is overrated now.

It will be interesting to see what kind of performances 'The Special One' can get out of him.

The most alarming thing is the lack of leaders, to think 10-20 years ago most of the stating 11 were club captain's, vice captain or captain material. The more I think about it we need John Terry back. He could also help John Stones along side him to mature into a top class cb

The captain thing is the first big test for Sam and for me he fails it miserably if Rooney keeps the job. The Captain has to be someone who is going to start the majority of games and I don't think at this point in time we can say Rooney should be starting most games mainly because we don't even know his position going forward.

No. No, the answer is not John Terry. Just no.

There needs to be more English players playing in the top two leagues in this country; to help develop better players, not to mention there needs to be a total overhaul of the coaching of young players in the entire country.

You are a lot closer than I thought you would be in regards to club captains etc 10 years ago

2006 WC 1st XI

1 GK
Paul Robinson ??
2 DF
Gary Neville
3 DF
Ashley Cole ??
4 MF
Steven Gerrard
5 DF
Rio Ferdinand
6 DF
John Terry
7 MF
David Beckham (c)
8 MF
Frank Lampard
9 FW
Wayne Rooney
10 FW
Michael Owen
11 MF
Joe Cole ??

Paul Robinson, and Joe and Ashley Cole are the only three that (as far as I can remember) where never captain material , maybe Owen also but have a feeling he might have been at Liverpool

Not that the team was particularly good, even if individual quality was pretty high through most of the team - just was never really the sum of its parts.

I think I'd be fine with him not naming a new captain for a few games and trying different people out. There is no stand out choice really, especially if the likes of Rooney and Hart are no longer regular starters.

Looking at that lineup to what he have now in the space of ten years just shows how far we've fallen...

I think the FA should take a punt on Paolo Di Canio, can't be any worse than the retard they just got rid of.............

Are you insane?

if you want a scandal then do it properly. Di Canio would be awesome and would put English football back on the map. I'd pay to watch him have a brawl with Roy Keane in the technical area just for the laughs.

Come on Di Canio English football needs you !!!!!

Logically, it has to be Southgate until the end of the Premier League season, then Howe? I think that's what the FA want.

Only question will be whether or not Howe wants the job this early in his career.

Really? He's like an even dodgier, inferior version of Allardyce. Zero chance he'd get it given the current corruption situation, I think.

Dogier yes, inferior no. I want a manager who will choose inform players and not go with big names.
