Next England Manager? Next England Captain?

I'm not a huge football fan and don't know the ins and outs of it all, but shearer seems very keen, why is he not in the running?

If he forwarded your his CV for the job would what would make him a better candidate than Allardyce etc? Good players don't equate to good managers. Maybe if he started at club level and went from there you never know in a few years.

I'd go Eddie Howe.

Can we get someone who has had success from a lower league please?

Those are the managers who manage young Englishmen, which comprise the England squad. Those are the managers who graft and try to produce the best results as possible because the opportunities in lower leagues are few and far between compared to the Premier League. Those are the managers who know how to talk their players into playing for the team, and not for themselves.

Someone from the Championship would do well.

He just seems to talk more sense than anyone else when dissecting/discussing poor results and what needs to be done to improve it all. All England see m to have had is manager after manager who have been hired on their 'CV' and look at the results of that, speaks for itself.

Gary Neville talks sense too...

Watching football and seeing what has gone wrong is ridiculously easy, you can literally go, oh, Jim is in the wrong place, he should have done this.

But actually getting that across to a player and making a system in which that mistake won't happen but OTHER mistakes won't come in from the change and getting 23 players to train together in one system is an entirely different and separate skill set.

Knowing what went wrong is not the same as knowing how to stop it going wrong again or anything to do with management in general.

Seems like fat Sam is expecting the FA to get in touch with him this week over the England job.

:/

and a lack of ambition by the FA, I do not oppose a foreign appointment again as there is just a lack of quality options that will learn from predecessor mistakes.

At least Allardyce would want it for genuine patriotic reasons, he would inject pride and passion into the team (hopefully) the likes of Klinsmann or Scolari would be after the big pay check

Is there anyone better than Big Sam for the role right now?

He can get very quick results which is an absolute necessity for an international manager, and his teams are all hard to beat. He can see potential and talent in players and can get the best out of wingers. If reports are to be believed he did a lot to move the game forwards technology wise too.

In many ways I would prefer him to another 'big name' coming in. Capello was supposed to be the one, and he was the worst out of the lot - save the wally.

Part of me agrees with the sentiment, part wonders if such a manager would have the experience to manage the sort of egos that would be present.

Capello has the best win % of any England manager, we've had plenty of **** managers but Capello wasn't one of them where results are concerned.

Allardyce would be a disastrous appointment for me, let's have it right McClaren pipped him to the job last time out which says it all.
