Next England Manager? Next England Captain?

Klinsmann for me. Actually has tactical nous. He has successfully managed two international teams and you'd hope the players would respect his achievements.

Redknapp, sherwood and pardew are managers who can't change matches. One system with no plan b

Captain Haddock for England. At least the press conferences would fun even if the match was rubbish!

lol I can just imagine him in press conferences!

On the other hand unfortunately Tintin already exists but he plays for Belgium (de Bruyne). :p

I think i may be the only one, but id love Rafa to have a go with England. He is passionate and 100% a football man. He knows British football well enough and.... it gives him an escape route from the Championship :P

I actually think this wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hah, obviously the FA wouldn't put Cantona in the job.

For them, it needs to be someone more like... Hodgson :p Whatever boxes Hodgson ticked (the ones the FA choose), I don't think Cantona would tick them :p

so they are basically after a "yes" man.

Nothing will change. They need some who will come in and rip it up a bit.

Of course, that's the only reason Hodgson got the job, he proved with Liverpool he didn't have it in him to manage a side with high expectations, a limited manager who got found out by a team of part-timers.

Klinsmann would be an excellent choice (Or Rafa as a good shout) but I feel the FA will bow to the "It can't be a Johnny Foreigner brigade" again

so that leaves Hoddle, Big Sam, Rednapp (think his bridges are already burnt down though) or another antiquated out of touch failed EPL manager ?

Hoddle would probably be ok as he is technically the only England manager that got sacked for anything that wasn't football related. Not sure what allardyce would bring, but I guess if long ball wins England a major tourney no one will complain.

I feel like I'm missing something here. I don't get it.

They are saying that an England manager will get slaughtered by the press and that might be potentially disruptive/off-putting to those with kids at school because they will get a lot of flak over it and the family will be bombarded by insults/threats on social media "I no where ur d0rta goes to skool imma **** her wyl u away in azerbajan".

Seems to be a nonsense to me because most high profile celebs will probably get that anyway and you get paid a fortune as England boss so can pay for good schools, security etc. It puts your kids in a awkward position at times, but that is the choice you make taking such a job.

Wenger is a great manager, and he'd have to have control of everything throughout the whole set-up including all the youth sides.

I'm not sure seeing the players 6 times a year will suit him though.

I don't have any good answers. Eddie Howe I think will be England boss one day, the way he comes across in the media and talks about his philosophy and football in general is hugely impressive and can't fail to impress people in an interview process. But it is probably a bit too soon for him and actually in some ways I kinda hope we get a better crop of players in the future for him to try his hands with, not shoot his load on this mob.

Southgate on the other hand just looks like a scared schoolboy most of the time, probably an intelligent guy but lacks gravitas and I could see the press tearing him to pieces.

Allardyce has a decent record in England but hasn't really had a proper top job, also plenty of rumours around dodgy dealings etc. Plus he might be holding out for the Real Madrid job don't forget....

In terms of foreign candidates, Hiddink ticks a few boxes in terms of International experience, good standard of English, has worked in England, seems to get on well with the players here etc. Likewise with Klinsmann but possible question marks over whether a German would get the job.

Moving onto the captain, personally I'd have Phil Jagielka but not really a long term option.

Therein lies the problem, his success was partly built around instilling an ethos, style of play and so forth which will be built up over time rather than intermittently. He also (historically at least!) had a good eye for emerging talent from overseas that he felt could fit a certain role but again not much use if you are restricted to just English players, and don't have to balance a transfer budget. I think for an international manager you need a slightly different skillset/philosophy, with tactical astuteness and motivational skills relatively more important than they might otherwise be.

The best man for the job would have been Mourinho. Defensive mindset is perfect for tournament football.

He's a results manager which is what you need at major tournaments.

What I want to know is why are other countries able to produce better football players than us? The Prem is probably the 2nd best league in the world after the La Liga.

We cant really say it's the best in the world as La Liga has much better players than the Prem league and Barca, Madrid, Athletico etc are bigger clubs than Leicester, Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Chelsea etc...
