Next Everton Manager

They are much of a muchness....that was the point Whelan was making, that moving to Everton is a sideways step in a career and not an upward step.

Hmm ok that makes sense i suppose but looking at attendances and the fact that Everton are never in any danger of relegation whereas Wigan are yr in yr out fighting for survival in the EPL. Mind you depending on which manager Everton get, they could very well be in the fight for relegation next yr :/

I suppose it depends how you define 'bigger', Wigan are about to be in the Championship (unless Arsenal fluff it :p) and I imagine they have a significantly smaller fan base than Everton as well?

Whelan talks out of his **** though, historically Everton are one of the 4 or 5 biggest clubs in England. Like Liverpool they never really capitalised on the commercial explosion of the EPL and have suffered for it.

Oiii now you gone and jinxed us :(, seriously its a game im not looking forward to as the pressure is now back on us to get 3 pts..Spurs are 2 pts ahead thanks to Stoke yesterday:p.

Clearly if you have no idea of football past Man United and the top 4 then yes, it's much of muchness.

Let's ignore past glories, cups, european success, league titles and time in the top flight as I hate it when old successful teams still think they are huge because of 30-100 years ago.

So let's just talk about the premiership. Which we have been in from the start, have pretty much maintained a consistent base mid table or above. Have a much higher following and have both won an FA cup. We also came runners up in 2009, not that it means much because the really big clubs and players don't give it any thought until the semi finals.

So how far back to you have to go to not be "much the muchness".

The last success? Clearly constant league position doesn't count to you, so winning an FA cup does. Therefore as they won something they are "much the muchness" with Liverpool and Arsenal too. :D

Like Liverpool they never really capitalised on the commercial explosion of the EPL and have suffered for it.

We suffered when Liverpool fans got us kicked out of Europe and all our best players ****ed off. Chances to play in the European cup lost and with it the break up of a good team and manager. I think we would have been so much better placed had that not happened but it was a trigger point for a lot of bad appointments and buys. Of course other teams suffered too because of it but we didn't recover at all after that.

Christ you lot really do live up to the name bitters dont you.

Regardless Everton were still relatively successful the years between the ban and the formation of the EPL. Getting kicked out of Europe effected Everton exactly the same as other teams. Whinging about not being in Europe the following season, a season where you won diddly squat I might add, has nothing to do with your current predicament in relstion to finances etc.

Can you read? I did say it effected other teams and we just didn't adapt to it. Regardless perhaps you would like to explain how "Getting kicked out of Europe effected Everton exactly the same as other teams" when only one team qualified for the european cup? No other team could suffer the same because they couldn't have qualified :p

You implied the european ban was the main factor behind your decline

I would argue that you lot were a stronger team the following season with Linneker replacing Andy Gray), Kendall didnt leave until 87 was it?

Well other teams won the league during the ban did they not? Or if you had been in Europe would Everton have been the only winners of the League?

No I said we suffered and I THINK we would have been better placed without the ban. Not that it was the one and only factor behind our slump. You have just interpreted my words for your own agenda/meaning.

Yeah we got Linekar but he didn't stick around long with the Euro ban and prompty ****ed off to Barca :D and Kendall too because of the Euro ban, funnily enough to Spain too. I think the lack of that income made us cash in on players too.

I just want to see him shake Steffen Freund's hand when they play Spurs:p
