Next Gen HP VR Headset

https://uploadvr.com/new-hp-reverb-g2-details/

New details:
Half resolution mode
60hz mode
Thinner cable.
Analog grip button.

Biggest issue is NO capacitive sensors on the buttons and triggers.

The most amazing thing for me when I got my Rift CV1 was the partial finger tracking made possible on the touch controllers. It really felt like I had hands in VR, and of course the Index takes this to the next level. Having no finger/gesture tracking at all is a massive step back.

Looks like it's going to be an excellent Sim headset, but the Rift/Quest and Index are still better for motion controller centric experiences.

I thought I would be well up for this, but the more I use my quest with VD wifi tethering the more I realise I really don't ever want wires again... even for sims the wire is something of a nuisance. Could probably be somewhat ameliorated with some cable hangar behind the seat but it's still not going to be as good as just being untethered.

I hope this next year or so brings us some really good wireless link headsets.

Dont think that valve have much to worry about with this release. In fact I always thought that 75Hz was around the minimum on the old dev kits before puking ensues.

Sure the resolution is a nice bump up on the index but the hardware requirements to run will be eye watering. I think your right it will make a nice sim headset but I think HP should have gone for a more "posh" rift approach to appeal to more buyers

The current Reverb is already great for Sim racing. My 1080Ti can run PC2 and AMS2 at low-ish settings smoothly.

Good point - did not realise that the current reverb has exactly the same resolution as the new g2. Not really sure who this is aimed at then

Bigger sweet spot would be nice, but I'm not sending back the Reverb I just bought and waiting for the G2.

There's lots of small improvements, sweet spot/better lenses being one as Twinz mentioned. In this case I don't think a resolution improvement was called for, it's already right at the limit of what current hardware can push

Really for me the controllers are the big weak point. Poor battery life (same as original WMR controllers), no capacitive touch, and WMR tracking (admittedly with four cameras).

The half-resolution mode is a neat feature to allow lower end hardware to run the headset at a decent resolution, but almost imperceptible screen door effect.

Coming soon, didn't they say summer or something.

Unless something gets announced better or near as, I'll be dropping an order when they go live. It's ticking my boxes, they're obviously making an effort to appeal as viable gamming device, and as I've said before the exact form factor of the Index is huge for me, I know what I am buying. They'd have done a halo, or something cheap id have passed it over.

Yeah August I think for ordering.

I've got a Rift s here and a Valve index. The rift s is way better than og rift. Not as good as Index but imo the Index is not double the cost better, or with lighthouses 2.5 times. It's definitely a quality product but I didn't find it amazingly better than the great value S. I'll be all over the g2 as well.
