*** Nexus 10 Tablet ***

Hi all,

Just moved from iPhone 5 to Nexus 4 and loving the Android experience.

Now looking at tablets. Really liking the bigger 10" form factor but have been reading that the overall specs are not as good as found on the smaller Nexus 7. Seems strange that the Nexus 10 would be inferior to the 7

I've also heard rumours of a spec bump?

regarding the video streaming apps and large file size mkv's just thought I would share my experience. I have tried Dice, MX player, Avia, Plug Player, wonder share player, Bs player and a few others which I long since uninstalled from my S3. The best by far is BS player which I have purchased, the reason ? it can do full hardware decode and has no problem playing 36gig mkv blue ray rips, which none of the others could (neither can my WDTV live or my PI running RaspBMC). I use it with BubbleUPnP its a great combo. Something else of note which may interest some, I also purchased PlugPlayer for one function that non of the others properly support, which is UPnP over VPN. PlugPlayer is the only app I have found that will allow me to view the stream (DNLA/ UPnP) content on my home network whilst out and about connected to home via the VPN.

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice.

I was lucky enough recently to have been given an iPad 4 as a gift from work for performance. While it is undoubtedly a well made device, and I am truly grateful for the gift, I'm really struggling to get on with it.

The problem is I am well invested in the Google system, and have had numerous Android devices since an HTC Hero, up until my happy medium I had with Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7.

I find iOS infuriating to work with. Compared to Jellybean, the OS is ugly, difficult to navigate, the keyboard awkward to use (why do you keep moving the keys!?), the app store the Apple fans rave about is confusing and the majority of apps are paid for or "in app purchases". I really miss the customisability of the N7, not to mention the flexibility of what I can and can't install and what those apps can actually do.

So I'm thinking sell both the N7 and the iPad and get my hands on an N10. Am I crazy for doing that? Would appreciate any advice. :)

i personally love my ipad 3 as it has more tablet ready apps then android at present. i have not used a nexus 10 yet so i dont know how it compared to my ipad 3 in terms of screen sharpness, battery life, weight and sound quality

From what I gather the N10 is at least as good as the iPad 4 in the first three terms you mention, I guess the sound quality would be subjective.

I have my brother's iPad 2 to compare with, and the sound on the Nexus 10 feels much nicer, as long as you're using it in landscape mode. The front facing dual speakers really do make a difference.

For what it's worth, I was quite surprised by the quality of the sound from the ipad. It's loud and quite a good sound reproduction. But why did they mount it on the back with no stereo separation? If I hold it up or leave it face down it sounds great, but in normal use it drives the sound either into the case or my lap, instantly muffling the sound.

I briefly owned a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 last year, and despite being pretty awful in most aspects I thought it's front mounted speakers were pretty good.

+1 sound while watching videos is really nice as compared to my iPad 2 from facing speakers obviously make quiet a bit of difference.

Pros:

Very light
Nice to hold
Puts tablet to sleep when closed

Cons:

Just a cover hence very little protection
Expensive for what it is.

Very crafty of Samsung! Release a full back cover that uses their own logo hence removing any hint of Google from the branding. Marketing genius.
