You would have saved about $10.

S800 is based on a newer process node too so better power savings aswell as enabling 1080p60 and 720p120 video recording too. And beastly GPU for intense games. S800 all the way. It gotta push ~2X the pixels as the Moto X.

Personally wouldn't mind a dual core S800 chip, one thing the Moto X benchmarks clearly show is nothing uses all 4 cores, outside of the physics test where you see a big difference between the S600 and the S4 Pro in the Moto X.

I beg to differ.. System monitor used to report all 4 cores being used in most applications on my nexus 4.

Yup, 4 cores is pointless, GPU and RAM are the more important things.

Many app etc. developers on xda as well as companies have even said themselves that quad core is pointless when it comes to real world usage and until software catches up will continue to be pointless (hopefully kit kat will bring some base optimisation for quad core and with the release of that new android app developing software [shown at the latest google i/o event] that now supports coding for quad core etc. we will see the true potential of quad within the next year)

My one S still feels as smooth and fast "overall" as the htc one and more consistently snappy/smooth than the gs 4 and that is with 2 s4 cores, adreno 220 iirc and 1GB RAM, granted it doesn't have anywhere as many pixels to push (obviously multi-tasking is better on the other phones though), phones like that and the moto X just go to show that software optimisation is far more important.

Heck the fact that window phones and iphones run just as good, if not better overall on what could be consider ancient hardware now says it all.

Even the moto X has absolutely superb battery life in real world usage and most people thought it would suck because of it having a small battery.....

I rather Google put that extra $10 or whatever it costs towards a better camera or/and speakers or/and bigger battery where you would notice a noticeable difference in "real world" usage.

All 4 core being online doesn't mean the app actual needs it, or does any real work on it. Here are some benchmarks that you can see the Moto x and the G2, which use 2 s600 cores and 4 s800 cores respectively. It is pretty clear we don't really need all 4 cores most of the time. Also look even closer at the S4/HTC One as it is basically the same exact cores, since the s800 is going to be faster core to core most of the time.

I have also run my Nexus 4 with just 2 cores on for awhile and it made no difference too my usage, I didn't notice it get any slower or anything. I did remove it since I am back on a stock kernel.

I'm not against having a quad-core phone, but I would rather a dual core with better battery life, also it will have extra room in the package I believe and is the main reasons Apple also wins in the GPU department. It go give us something else basically that we need since most of the time its just diminishing returns.

Off course there are some that we see some gains but most of the time, I don't think its worth it.

If that pic posted earlier really is the Nexus 5, then I'm in love!:o

Looks like a gorgeous bit of kit and can't wait for it to be announced/released/bought/despatched/delivered! :D

So confirmed then. Same price as last year (no reduction like the Nexus 7 which is a shame).

Nexus 5 16GB will be $349.

Last year that translated to £279.

If this handset was coming from Samsung or HTC it would be around £400.

What advantages does Samsung and HTC devices have to warrant a more expensive price?

Would be £500+ at launch, probably closer to £550!

The nexus lines are always very competitively priced compared to other manufacturer's handsets, not because the other handsets have an advantage to warrant the price, but simply because they have to make their profit off of the handsets. Google sells the Nexus lines at little to no profit, as by doing so they aim to make their money back through more people using Google's services.

The nexus line have also always served a second purpose, to act as a handset baseline which manufacturers will then need to beat to stay competitive. It allows google to have an even more active hand in shaping how android phones progress.

If it does turn out to be the exact same price across all regions then one can only assume that Google are subsiding LG, I doubt that would ever be confirmed but with the increased specs, possible LTE and better camera then it wouldn't surprise me.

lg g2 with same/better specs costs ~400-440 new.

As you said you're "due" an upgrade, I take it you're on contract? Which mobile network would you get a Nexus from? I'm on Orange and I don't think I've ever seen a Google phone from Orange or EE.

Carphone warehouse would probably sell you one however going by the Nexus 4 I think you'd be better off buying it outright and going SIM only.
