*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

When the OTA does come and I update, is there any gain from doing a factory reset on the phone?

All my stuff should be backed up to my google account so it will just be a matter of signing in, but is it necessary to do a reset?

what app is that?

what's wrong with the default photos app?

No, however many people on this forum are technically minded and will prefer a fresh start, sort of like a format C:\ rather than a windows upgrade.

I had g+ disabled as not a fan... I liked gallery view :(

I got this up and running on mine and my fiancees N5's last night. I downloaded the OTA update from Google, and then sideloaded it (I think that's the right term, it's the first time I've done something like this). Both of them went without a hitch.

I'm liking 5.0 so far, just need to get used to a few things, like having to swipe up to unlock (I normally swipe up and right, so I keep opening the phone).

I just followed this: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-nexus-tablet-kitkat

I still don't understand why SMS is even in Hangouts. It makes no sense from a user point of view at all (IMO).

It makes perfect sense. It gives people greater functionality with one app. The problem is Hangouts has (or had) two fatal flaws. 1) WhatsApp became synonymous with IM over 3G first, 2) It required people to use G+.

Hangouts SMS/IM integration should be exactly how iMessage works. Send over data unless there's no data connection.
They started to get there as previously chats were split into data and SMS but now they are merged.
Hangouts bases it's sending on how it received it's last message from the recipient. If my missus sends me an SMS it responds on SMS until I change it back. As per iMessage it should send as data and if this fails to reach my recipients device it should failback to SMS.

Apple treat their users as dumb and automate a lot of areas which works perfectly and this is an example of it. Google rely too much on user intervention. For the average Joe they just want stuff to work without having to get it to work.

Joined the Lollipop revolution last night by side loading the OTA via the Nexus toolkit. It didnt take long and it went well.

I'm liking it so far and the Nexus 5 feels like a new phone. It was a tad laggy using Google Launcher but I switched to my fav Nova Launcher and all is good again. Still learning a few things with the new operating system but I like it. Everything seems smoother and tightly integrated and works well.

I didn't like the battery saver mode though as it turns the status bar and the buttons on the bottom an ugly shade of red. It's a shame that you can't enable battery saver from initially powering up the phone without activating those horrid red bars.

The main thing I'm interested in is the battery life and see if Lollipop really does bring improvements however so far I haven't really seen much as the battery is depleting at near enough the same rate as KitKat with the normal way I use my phone.

Well see...

Hate this notification pull down why have they got inverted colors on there? Is that more useful then volume switching controls?

It should at least be customisable
