Quick tip: if your Nexus 5 doesn't see your home Wi-Fi, it's probably because you are on wide band (5 Ghz) only. When I changed mine to ~2.4 Ghz broadcast, it detected it.

Does it not support 5Ghz wifi then?

Yes it does both 2.4 and 5, my nexus 5 picks them both up from my duel band router.

OK, that's worrying. I'll have to test it when I get home. It may be that I was using an unsupported 5 GHz channel.
