*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

A quick comparison with the Nexus Gen One:

Slightly longer and not as wide.
The screen is lovely.

It's much thinner.
Feels lighter.
Nice nicer feel in the hand.

How much narrower is the Gen 2? Trying to figure out if it is going to fit in my car dock or not. Is the micro-USB still in the same position? If so I think I might be able to make a couple of alterations with sticky back pads to make it fit but not if they have drastically moved its location.

I've been looking for a tablet for Uni, worthy of investing in it then? :D

For stuff like web browsing, watching videos and playing games on it, then yeah I would highly recommend it. I guess reading pdf files on it will be fine due to text being really sharp on it.
If you are looking to do uni work on it other than researching and more for like word processing etc. then I don't think it's best suited for stuff like that.

I done some screenshots of text from a PDF hopefully this will give you an idea on what the text is like on the tablet in full zoomed out view, full zoom view and about 50% zoom

Here is a screenshot of the BBC webpage in full zoom, as you can see it's very readable

It's 6mm narrower, dimensions:

2012:

198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm (340g)

2013:

200 x 114 x 8.65 mm (290g)

Yeah that's the sort of thing I had in mind, any work I'd do on my desktop or in the computer labs. Worried about the lack of storage though, does the cloud function alright?

*Whistles* certainly is sharp, thanks for the comparison shots! :D

I'm afraid those screenshots mean nothing chap haha. As we are viewing them through screens here. You are simply displaying the pdf document to us.

The best way to show dpi on a screen is with a decent camera, comparing the screen to another.

I was about to say...:D

That could have come from the 2012 Nexus 7 for all intents and purposes.

Compare it to other tablets if you have any, I have had a look and shockingly, no sites have any decent, up close, high res comparison shots... This will be most visable with a pdf like the one you showed. Showing at fully zoomed out resolution of the pdf. This is where the text will become 'pixelated' on older less dip screens. Where as the high dpi of the 2013 N7 will show a smooth and fluid like text.

In a dark setting if you can to reduce glare.

Niiiicceee! That does make it easier to tell, thanks MrZippo and kona :D.

And now that you've got the new Nexus, I don't suppose you want your old one ;)
