*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Anyone know how to remove the google search widget that appears to be stuck on the homescreens?

Huh, I hadn't even noticed that was there till you mentioned it. I've only had my nexus since Friday, but still.

What are people's favourite launchers, and why? What do they offer over the standard launcher?

Are people using the OTG cable and external hard drive/usb stick for movies ok with these? Read a few things of people having to change language/reboot etc. This still an issue?

Had to change the language to English US for nexus media importer to work (non rooted) now works perfect without needing to restart when connecting usb stick.

Same, but this is a known bug that Google introduced with 4.3 so they should be able to fix it.

ooh, now thats interesting! - I'm just coming up to the 21day no-quibbles return from my supplier so was seriously thinking of returning it.

I don't think these 2nd Gen nexus 7's ever shipped with an OS older than 4.3 did they? - so how can we say that its a 4.3 bug pls? :)

Mine shipped with 4.2. The bug is only noticed on certain touch panels as the nexus 7 has 3 different panels, but the software doesn't take this into account.

4 of us have these 2nd gen nexus 7's
we ALL suffer one common problem - screen calibration. When you tap somewhere it doesnt always register, usually an intermittant issue and cant be replicated reliably but defo there.

ONLY problem we have tbh, otherwise absolutely gorgeous devices

Lies! I don't have this issue :p

Well after just over a month of lies and general incompetence from Asus my Nexus 7 has landed back at my house. Looking forward to getting home to see what the clowns have done, hopefully it works, but judging by the level of stupidity they have demonstrated I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't even fixed it.

I'm aiming low and hoping to be surprised :)

yea what Cosimo says, works great with 720p and 1080p mkvs no lag whats so ever. For some reason my 1TB drive doesnt work with the otg i have just my 500gb might be due to power needs but 500gb is more than enough

I've rooted mine for adblock and fulls screen.

Ran ElementalX kernel and clocked to 1.7ghz. Can also tap of swipe bottom of screen to turn on as the on/off switch is a little awkward to get to.

Investigating further looks like there's two problems with the screen. The first is that the screen is not sensitive enough (calibration problem aka missed touches) and the second is a hardware issue (ghost touches).

Problem here is that Google well never be able to address this with updates - making the screen more sensitive will have a negative effect for some users and a positive one for others, and vice versa if they reduce sensitivity.

Looks to be wide variations in calibration so this will never be addressed for all.

Heading to battle the purple shirt brigade armed with more info :) - wish me luck lol
