*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Just been in to return it and funnily enough the guy in front of me returned one for EXACTLY the same reason!!!. I didnt have to explain anything, they didnt even bother testing it even though i was 8 days over the return limit lol.

Interestingly enough the guy in front of me said he had already contacted asus and they acknowledged the fault and advised him to return it too.

I'm amazed how so many people are willing to live with a faulty device though as my colleagues just shrugged it off.

The main point of a tablet is the touch screen. If that dont work right it defeats its purpose in my view.

Perhaps that particular Purple Shirt store had a faulty batch where the screen was much worse then usual?

This would explain why they had no questions and never looked surprised. Would also explain why it seemed to trouble you much more then everyone else in here. :)

The vast majority seem pretty happy with them.

Its more of a widespread issue than that unfortunately mate. The guy in front of me had 3 with the same prob. Also check out the google thread, android police and xda. Loads of peeps complaining of issues.

Glad u got one that works fine but i'm not going to risk it. Some peeps online showing the problem gets worse as time progresses too.

Gorgeous display and performance but without proper working touch screen then useless

I don't own one, was just browsing through the thread. :)

It just seems for a problem that is so 'common' the ratio of buyers experiencing it in this thread seems surprisingly low. Nearly everyone is very happy with it.

On XDA and designated forums you are going to see a concentration of problems, look on the XDA forum for literally any device release and you can find a whole mass of problems. It's never a good indication of widespread faults, as obviously those without faults won't post anything.

Just tested mine again with the app shown in the YouTube video and I can't replicate the issue with any number of fingers. Build is JSS15R and claims to be up to date.

your one of the four that didn't have problems - 3 out of 4 I said ;)

ok - if it's not such a widespread issue why have google issued out 2 updates specifically for this problem? :(
Its common sense with software they can only turn down or turn up the sensitivity - that's about it - and due to three different types of panel in these babies they will never be able to satisfy all. I just cba with going through a potential 2-6 devices before I get a working one - sorry for expecting it to work out of the box straight away. 1 dodgy device I can handle - anymore than that is pushing it.

Don't get me wrong guys - it's an awesome device and I loved the display quality and performance, but I'm touchy (oh the irony) when it comes to touch screens - Asus should have done a better quality control job.

There are other users here like kree who admit to having the issue, and in all honesty my issue was intermittent too - but I always have one drop test for any device I use - OVERCLOCKERS FORUM! - If I can't type on / view this forum = FAIL :p

Phantom touches when you use more than one finger. Luckily mine doesn't have the problem even though I'd love to have an excuse to return it and get a refund.

There's two reported issues - I suffered the second

1)- Ghost touches - Screen touch's are registered whilst being used with/without charger plugged in - something to do with EMI grounding - hardware fault which no amount of software will fix.

2)- Missed touches - Touch somewhere and it doesn't register first time. This will probably be due to google trying to fix the above issue and lowering the sensitivity. It also seems to happen either towards the lower of the screen (in landscape mode) and towards the left of the screen in portrait mode (ppor calibration by asus). Even the purple shirt brigade at my local store acknowledged this! - They've had a number of returns over this past week. Guess everyone had their hopes up on this SECOND update that google said would address this issue, then got fed-up.

Just google 'Nexus 7 2013 touch' to see the extent of reports.

EDIT: Make that 3 - The third was to do with multi-touch - but this was apparantly resolved for most in the first update google provided.

Just installed the black titanium Dbrand skin to the front of my N7. Installed over the top of a screen protector.

I'm guessing plenty of you guys use your tablets to browse these forums amongst others and I would like to know :

How is it for browsing the forum on that size screen? I use my laptop purely for ocuk forums, civinfo, hotukdeals and ebay!

I'd like something less.... chunky and cumbersome!

Thanks

I've got the Nexus 7 2012 and use it daily to browse multiple websites. It's absolutely fine and one of the things it was designed to do. For ebay and HUKD and other sites, you can also use dedicated mobile apps if you wish.

I've noticed starting last night that in the top corner of the screen where the position icon is there seems to sometimes be like a faint icon there. Is this APS accessing my position or something?

It's the NSA tracking you. On a more serious note I've never noticed any icons being faded on any of my android devices, they're either on or off.

It's the NSA I tell you! On a more serious note I had this on my device and I believe its just a place-holder for Google now weather notification but its very faint and disappears when you access the weather from notification bar.
