*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

I will upgrade to one, the resolution alone will be worth it. No micro SD card slot still makes me rage though, even with a OTG cable.

I'm interested in battery life as I find the battery life on my Nexus 7 to be quite rubbish. The new Nexus 7's CPU is apparently able to step down to a low power core. Interested in seeing how much of an improvement is gained by this and swapping to a different CPU.

Argh.. that battery life is more than disappointing. I was hoping for it to be at least as good (bad) as the first generation. There's no way you'll be able to make it through a whole days use when you throw a touch of gaming in to the mix. This is really disappointing.

That has kind of stopped me dead in my tracks haha. As battery is something I rate very highly in my requirements :(

Hmmm... The only continuous use from me would be podcasts. Does Jellybean pause sound when you lock the device?

Shame they didn't opt for the Snapdragon 800 chipset. I wanted to buy the new nexus 7, but it has exactly the same internals as my 1 year old Nexus 4. The only advantage would be a bigger screen. :(

Same here agnes. I think I've just completed a full U turn in my mind on this New Nexus 7. Such a shame. That thinner casing has resulted in a smaller capacity battery, which doesn't help. Obviously the display will consume more power, but it leaves me wondering how efficient Snapdragon is and whether Tegra are better in this area?

Ha - the first Nexus 7 does't seem so bad now with battery life. :(

I can imagine exactly what it will be like, struggling to get through the day. Will have to charge it at least twice if your considering playing games. Shall be too afraid to play games on it watching the battery taking a hammering. Looking at that review you'll be able to play graphically intensive games for at most 2 hours before it's time to plug in.

Look at the iPad mini; over 5 hours longer running time, it's a totally different device and I don't want one.. but come on! That's where we should be aiming at Google/Asus!

Ridiculous

Someone made a good point, the nexus on 100% brightness or 50% brigthness or whatever will not be the same as other devices, they need to standardise the brightness so it gives a true representation. For example no way would I use 100% at night, I take it as low as possible, need more to come out before making a decision

Spot on!

It has a VERY bright panel so essentially the brighter the display the more juice it will use:

And of course you have far more pixels compared to most other tablets too.

CPU in terms of power efficiency is FAR better than that awful tegra 3 chipset.

Wait for end users reviews first and take the "benchmarks" with a pinch of salt as they are always a bit "off" and often wrong in comparison to real world usage.

No it still plays, wouldn't be much use if it didn't :D

Pfft I wouldn't put any faith in the engadget review - wait till Anandtach's full review is out. They run at about 200nits across all devices.

Testing the tablet at 50% brightness - lol. Great parity there.

Knee jerk reactions on battery life much. What do you guys do with a tablet all day that would cause you to run out while not near a charging point?

Over 7 hours of 1080p viewing at brighter than it probably needs to be given the display is an age!
