*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Agree with others. Don't jump to conclusions on juice etc. till conclusive reviews are done with proper testing conditions such as AnandTech.

You could get 4 hours on a S4 1080p device which has a tiny display :)

Perhaps, variables considered for brightness etc but how many people are realistically going to be watching over 7 hours of 1080p video between getting a chance to charge.

OK there might be the odd time perhaps on a long ish flight etc, but day to day use... really? 7 hours?

Also regarding the picture of the GSM arena review on the S4, that 12.5 hours playback is SD video

Well, if I'm out and about backpacking for 3 days, no charge points. On the 3rd day I find a wifi spot. I pull out my tablet and the general use on down times when I stop has drained the battery. I need to book a flight... Nope. I'm screwed until I charge it.

I will become scared to spend a hour or 2 on skype to family in case I won't get to charge it. It will be treated like my phone, which is an emergency device, I don't want that, I want a long lasting device that can provide me with skype and net browsing for many hours over several days.

Sadly, it looks like this just isn't going to hold up unless I'm able to charge it every night. Which I won't, not by a long shot!

I'm on a 7 day boat expedition in the Philippines for example. The Nexus 7 2 will be dead before the 3rd day!

Standby time is also important, just locking the screen, how long will it last then?

Their aren't many tablet that will meet your needs if you want a device you can use a lot and not expect the battery to drain, on standby this thing will last an age I'm sure.

Have you considered buying a few portable power packs? Two or three will give you a few full charges each dependant on their size.

Battery life:

Battery life can vary dramatically between different use cases, but we have been riding this Nexus 7 pretty hard since we got our hands on it and the battery has held up quite well. While using the tablet for duties normally reserved for our phone — Google Voice messaging, browsing, email and the like — with a mixture of Wifi and Bluetooth tethered data and high (70-percent or above) screen brightness, we easily pushed past two days of usage with multiple hours of "screen on" time.

This falls in line with what we experienced on the original Nexus 7, and is more than acceptable for a tablet of this size. Even when using it as a primary device over a phone, the Nexus 7 battery held up very well to demanding usage. It's a great feeling being able to go to sleep at night and not even consider charging the tablet — knowing with a full day's use starting the next morning it still won't drain completely.

Hmm! Not as bad as I had imagined then.

A few places have this up for preorder now. A certain place you're able to get the 32GB version for £229.99.

Edit: Shipping on 29 Aug 2013

When i'm travelling i tend to carry a power monkey for extra juice. Does the trick for me.

Think i'll pick one of these up. Has skype video calling been sorted on android devices yet? Haven't tested on my nexus 4 yet.
