*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

dont slate me for this guys but i have never owned a Android device as i have always been on apple products, now i just got rid of my 1st gen ipad to my sister and am just wondering how easy these are to work with regarding settings getting the jist of it for a first time user,

if i can get along with the nexus 7 then am tempted to ditch the 4s and go with android phone as well, hoping to use the DSLR controller with the 5D2 along with Plex and PDF viewing while away

Easy peasy mate - you can also what a few youtube videos before hand to get an idea - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TXLxey5rF0

likewise :) she just doesnt know it yet

do we know a release date yet? see play is still selling the 2012 model with no mention of the refresh

No dates for the UK at present. Could be anything from early August to mid September (purple shirts showing 13/09). Just watch this space.

I would be very surprised if it didn't, as the N7 did with an app.

Hopefully it does! As I would be using this for quite a few films etc. so would definitely need USB OTG.

IIRC the nexus 4 doesn't support USB OTG, you need to root etc. and then have another lead in order to power the USB device iirc so it would be a PITA if it was the same for this :(

quick question, i have the original nexus 7, and i have 2 cases for it the poetic fake leather book type one and a mofi pouch.

i have no problem with selling it on with the leather case, because the new one has different things like camera, etc which wouldnt work with it. but will the new one fit in the mofi pouch?

anyone got dimensions of both nexus 7's?

E Cookie for you good Sir :D great video, Clear and easy instructions

on another note what app was needed for the USB OTG on the Nexus ?? i ask as am putting a wishlist together on the store so that when i do have my Nexus there all their in a list

I'm off to the states a week on Sunday. If I can pick one of these up what issues might I run into?

I'm guessing the charger would need to be replaced, and the warranty would be void...anything else? Can get a 32gb one for cheaper than the price of a 16gb one in the UK.

I just hope that they have completely fixed the issue of being able to use the BT for streaming audio (BT headset) and use WiFi at the same time. This has always bothered me with the original Nexus 7 and is the same with my father in laws Nexus 4.

What's the deal with wireless charging? Anyone got a video or article I can look at? Wondering if that might something that won't work in UK with a US model.

The updated the BT software in 4.3 - that could help.

I was hoping that it would but here is what I get with the 4.3 update....

there is a huge thread of the issue here...

https://code.google.com/p/android/i...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=41631

for some the 4.3 update seems to have helped.

for others, as me.....

This is still very much an issue with my Nexus 10 on 4.3. I did a complete factory reset before upgrading to 4.3 to start from a clean slate. This issue can be easily reproduced and demonstrated with the speedtest.net app. I have an 18mbps AT&T Uverse connection at home and with bluetooth turned off, the app displays me as getting almost the full 18mbps. As soon as I flip bluetooth on from the right dropdown shade and rerun the test, my download and upload speeds drop anywhere from 80-95%, IF the test is even able to finish, as most of the time the app says the network connection timed out due to the bluetooth interference. Having to buy a 5Ghz router is NOT a viable solution to an issue that is only inherent to these Google devices.
Just FYI....

The same test done with my Motorola Razr i phone using a 5Ghz WiFi connection...

So the Razr i with a 5Ghz WiFi is fine and no issues are present.

The speed was probably slower than the Nexus due to being at the opposite end of the house to the router at the time of testing.
