***Nexus One Thread***

You can't actually preorder, just enters your email address to register interest.

Still I've registered my interest for both the dock and the car dock, would love to have both at US prices. I can pay £35 and £30, but not the £80-90 they are on ebay or £100 from Google US at the moment!

Yeah agreed, I hope this price comes down in a month or so!

New kernels available to rooted users, freeing up another 21MB of RAM for the system. When I'm running no apps I now have over 200MB free on Cyanogen 5.0.6 as aposed to 140-odd when running the Desire ROM

Nexus One will be here on Friday, would this be the best guide to follow from start to finish?

Cyanogen

Cyanogen 5.0.6 \o/

Going to be doing a whole lot of reading tonight and tomorrow!

Sorry mate, I meant to email you back, but got distract by work :(

It’s the best because it’s the one all the others are derived from :) Also watch some Youtube videos so you recognise each screen when you get to it :) When it says you can backup before wiping and flashing a new ROM it should say always backup :)

I'd leave it a week before rooting, just to familiarise yourself with the phone, and check for issues. Dust under the screen occurred in very early phones, so shouldn’t affect you. Dead pixels is a worry with any phone, but is an extra pain because its OLED, so if they’re dead, they’re dead, not stuck like regular LCD. The Desire’s pinking issue seems not to affect these, but does affect the AT&T models, so check it anyway.

Battery life will be terrible for the first week. After you root install SetCPU (Search it on XDA) and install one of the custom OC + UV kernels. This improved my battery about 50-60% over an unrooted stock-ROM handset :)

btw... Why did it take Vodafone SOOOOOOOOOOO long to release the nexus one... I've had ait a few days now and I've not noticed any voda customisation... Is it just me or am i blind?

I will root after the weekend as going away anyway, but it will be hard not to root it tomorrow night!

I had a look at SetCPU, it looks stable enough and reassuring that it is under volted so less power consumption so I may give it a try, always wary of overclocking phones though... But this is why I have a Nexus One right!?

I've been using the OC kernels since the first beta's and never had any issues (Its only a 10% overclock anyway, and doesn't require a higher voltage for it to be stable), the UV ones seem a bit hit and miss though, I've got a non OC but heavily UV'd experiment kernel atm, and I'm having some issues with lag, trying to find the cause, because it may be an app, the kernel or maybe my SetCPU profiles could do with adjusting

Just rooted my a few days ago! Fun fun fun!

Still not tried SetCPU, is the battery noticeable better without any loss of performance?

Can't say, either this new ultra-UV kernel OR the new SetCPU (Which now has profiles for up to 4 different charge states as a posed to 2 previously) has improved the battery life, but I can't be bothered to be scientific about which has done it :p

Currently I have the general profile set to Min 245 Max 998
75%-> 50% Min is 245 Max 768
50% -> 25% Min is 245 Max is 576
25% -> 0% Min 245 Max 245
Also have a sleep/standby of 245, 245
And a failsafe for when the temp > 40C of 245,245

I haven't seen too much slow down yet, but may bump all those speeds up a bit in due course

I've been rooted since getting the phone around the 10th Jan.

Rooted the day i got it and was running Cyanogens rom since the first betas, including his 'Makin Bacon' addon before that. But the last few releases have been eating my battery.... :(

Shame since i do love Cyans work......

However i've been running Enomther's TheOfficial Nexus1 v1.8.1 for a month+ now. Including the UV/OC Kernel and Desire camera addon (also in the above link)

Running at 1.113ghz, and its been great, still better battery and all very smooth.

I'm tempted to go back to Cy's 5.0.6 but am really happy with Enoms ROM at the mo. If Cyan can find the cause of te battery drain them i'll be back likea shot.

:)

Could I flash the UV-OC plus the desire addon kernel ontop of Cyan's mod?

I'm pretty sure I can I just want to make sure!

Yeah, there are lots of different OC UV kernels, make sure yours is either non-specific or Cyan specific :) XDA Nexus Development has links to most if not all of them :)

Beware if you have the Desire camera this will replace that, unless you get one that includes the Desire camera app (Told you there were lots of variations :p ). If you just flash over the Desire camera kernel without replacing it with the stock camera app first the camera will force close whenever you try to open it, like mine does. Reflashing the ROM would also work, but as I don't use the camera too much its not on my list of things to do

Woo Nexus just arrived, glad I changed from the Desire to the Nexus, I prefer the sleeker look, the easy battery cover removal haha and no HTC sense in general, and never thought I would say this but I'm glad to be back to a trackball, its actually easier to use than the optical pad for me, and it GLOWS!!! =D

Don't get me wrong the Desire is a superb phone but each to their own! :D

What is wrong here?

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe

Keep getting this error when closing SDK down.

Java is installed to that DIR and I have tried space before ; and after etc. =\

*** Following this guide so I can use ADB etc ***

Windows

Instructions from Android Developers and ADB, Fastboot, and Nandroid for Noob

1. Download the latest Android SDK.
2. Unzip to C:\AndroidSDK
3. Right-click on (My) Computer, and select Properties
4. Go to Advanced settings
* XP: Click the Advanced tab
* Vista/7: Click Advanced system settings on the left
5. Click the Environment Variables button
6. double-click on Path (under System Variables)
7. Add the full path to the tools/ directory:

C:\AndroidSDK\tools\

(make sure a semicolon (;) separates this new path from all the others)

Latest windows sdk version appears to need: "C:\AndroidSDK\android-sdk-windows\tools", install location may change with further updates..

1. Run C:\AndroidSDK\SDK Setup.exe
2. If it gives you an error go to settings and click on "Force http//....."
3. Unselect all options except for the USB driver
4. If you can't get the setup to work, download the USB-DRIVERS folder - HERE (Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7)
5. On your phone, click Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB Debugging is on.
6. Plug your phone into your computer via USB cable (it needs to be on). It should say installing drivers if using Windows.
7. After it installs the drivers, goto the Start menu and type cmd into the search bar (Vista or higher) or click Run then type in cmd (XP) to open the command prompt.
8. Type the following into the command prompt window:

adb devices

You should see a serial number pop up, it’s the serial number of your phone. This means you are all set. If you do NOT see a serial number, then we need to reinstall the drivers.

1. Download USBDeview
2. While the phone is still plugged in, open USBDeview and sort by manufacturer. Find all the HTC/Android drivers and uninstall them all. (Windows Vista requires program to be run as an administrator, otherwise files won't uninstall.)
3. Once all have been uninstalled, unplug the phone from the USB cable and plug it back in.
4. The correct drivers should reinstall automatically (check the drivers as they are installing, one should say ADB Device driver).
5. To check, go to Devices in your Start menu then click on the “Android Phone”. Click on the Hardware tab, and check the list of drivers for ADB Interface under Type.
6. Done! Now you can use ADB to alter your phone from your computer.

What's going on there? I've not had any issues on 2 separate Windows 7 installs, and never seen a mention of this or Java :/ It just installed the Nexus Drivers automatically (If you're using the latest version of the SDK)

Maybe try the Magic thread, or create a new one, lots of experience of the SDK, including a few Devs on this forum. Try XDA for the issue too?

Not yet, will do now.

I've tried a system restore from yesterday, cleaning registry and reinstalling Java etc.

Now I need to learn what radios/kernals are etc and how to install other things!

Anyone care to explain over MSN? <3
