NFL 2016 Season

Also, I assume you mean as opposed to college? Maybe fair comment. I wouldn't say it was common place though. This particular hit was quit dirty, but often it's more about over protective rules.
It was an emotional reaction written when I was angry/upset, now that I've calmed down a bit I'll be happy as long as the player is given a suspension. Also helps that the Vikes manged to win the game ;)

Seems strange to me though that you can take out the opposition's most important player and the only punishment you get is what, a 15 yard penalty? What sort of deterrent is that? Surely a player should be ejected for that sort of hit?

To be fair, these hits happen reasonably often, as a QB slides. It just so happens this one bounced Teddy's head off the turf rendering him unconscious. Had Teddy bounced back up and carried on, we wouldn't still be talking about it.

Much as we see it as a dirty hit, a few inches either way and Teddy would likely have been fine. At full speed it's hard for the defender to be that precise I feel.

In my opinion an in-game penalty isn't enough, I think the player should be ejected from the game and face a fine/suspension also. The NFL are pretty good at punishing most things but sometimes the punishments don't seem to fit the crime. According to the rules, players can be ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct, but this is so wide ranging that it could be for anything from using the ball or any other object as a prop during a celebration to punching or kicking another player.

Obviously the latter is far more likely to lead to ejection from the game, but it seems silly that you can knock out an opposing player with a clearly illegal, and in my opinion deliberate, hit and only get a 15 yard penalty, but then get ejected for punching a player even though they are padded up and likely wearing a helmet.

Regarding that hit - Bridgewater is lucky he didn't receive a serious injury from that - I had a very similar thing happen during a snowboarding accident 8 years ago where my head snapped back from a very high speed crash and hit hard ice and my neck has only had like 70-80% movement since. Maybe it's a testament to how fit/strong these modern athletes are that it didn't cause any serious damage.

Don't see it too often in the game though thankfully. But agree, it should be instant ejection like in the NHL - then apply the penalty in-game and the fine after the game.

just found out that the rams have signed wes welker, nice addition for us, being as they don't seem to trust foles he should provide a decent target.

edit:
you know its a bad night when your team makes cutler look good :(

gurley brought back to earth with a bump, not sure what fisher/offence coach are trying to do, but its failing miserably, first half ALL receptions for the rams could only match one of the bears receivers totals, now they've extended it to 2 bears players going over 100 yds

Just three games again this year? I was led to believe we would see at least four.

thought it was a "possible" 4th game rather than a definite ?

whooo rams :D, did read something the other day, not sure how true, that the offensive coach for the rams, rather than working on improving the rams offense is off playing private investigator searching for a "missing" girl

just came across the brady "rex ryan" troll audible from the weekend today :D.

and "rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was involved in a shooting incident on Tuesday night.....", already serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, wonder what the hell he's caught up in now.

There's a chance the Redskins could be here twice in the space of a week!

Decent line up for next year as my mate is a Rams fan. (I'm a Redskins fan with a liking of the Colts... mainly as I have Andrew Luck in fantasy)

This year has to be the worst in terms of officiating, so many bogus calls every weekend.

I read somewhere that NFL referees are part-timers, with all the money involved am I wrong in thinking they should have full-time referees?

But that is what the strikes were about a year or two back. The NFL wanted them to be full time, they pay them a set amount each. The problem is, some of them are teachers or something on a similar pay band and some are lawyers who would be taking a MASSIVE pay cut.

Well have renewed my International series season tickets today and really pleased with the option to pick the exact seats I wanted at Twickenham :D. I was hoping for four games next season but with seeing at least 3 new teams over here it should be good and having never been to the home of rugby it will be great to see how the atmosphere differs from Wembley.

Shame my Pat's lost at the weekend but that was a game I thought from the outset of the season would go 50/50 and with all the injuries we have had to key personnel its a credit to the team to still be competitive. I think a lesser team would have just started planning for next season. Hopefully results go our way this weekend and we clinch the division. I'm just hoping Gronk will be rested for a few weeks so that knee heals properly and that he doesn't suffer yet another season ending injury.

I honestly can't see the panthers going 16-0 this season but they have certainly improved massively from what I have seen on red zone compared to last season. As bad as NO have been playing I think they could probably give them a close game again but if they are perfect up to the Giants I think that is when the streak will end. If they do make it to 16-0 then well done and well deserved.

As much as the officiating has been questionable at times I think like football we expect the odd decision to be "close" and balance out over the course of a game but it seems that there have been some real howlers which does add a bit of spice to a game.

I'm still not happy with how video replays work and think they could learn a thing or two from how it is used in rugby. Maybe if the video replay ref spots an obvious error then they should call it out to the on field team. Its not like it is going to hold up the game that much.
