NHL 14-15 season

Arrived in Washington conveniently just as the Islanders Rangers game starts on the tv ;) going to be a nice few hockey filled days

i know right.

so frustrating being a flyers fan.

I have to go to hockey tomorrow with a Devils fan. which I'm sure is going to be fun...

I think it's frustrating being a fan of any team in any sport! (except maybe the top few teams in football as they seem to dominate from what I hear).

I've always been neutral really - despite having preferences for some teams but I have certainly become a fan of the Blues and it creates great moments, and bad moments.
I love the sport more than any 1 team though and that to me is important as i can always appreciate it that way even if the Blues fail (again).

To be honest, I think the Bruins have got their act together so I don't believe any of the Wild Card spots in the East are up for grabs now. Senators and Flyers were the only 2 teams really showing signs of a strong push but they need another 7/8 wins out of 10 pretty soon to put the pressure back on Boston.

I would like to see both Bruins and Kings out but think both will make it. I predict Sharks/Jets/Flames to fight it out for the last spot in the West with Kings finishing 3rd.
But we'll see....Blues looking strong for division on initial viewing but their schedule includes a lot more playoff teams than Hawks or the Preds. Not sure how it compares to other teams going for Presidents (Ducks, Candiens and maybe Lightning or Rangers)

I would agree with that. I think not having a 'local' team makes it more that way for us in the UK anyway.

I love just watching any game really but have followed the flyers since I was small as Lindros and LeClair were my favourite players and they both played for Philly.

Spent a lot of time going to Houston Aeros games when I was younger too as my dad lives there.

Besides, being a flyers fan you have to have a few backup teams to give you something to watch in the playoffs :p

I'm liking the Caps at the moment, I do feel that the islanders have a very real opportunity to win the cup though.

I imagine a lot of people are the same there - liking teams based on players they liked to watch when younger. Same happened to me with Lemieux and Jagr with the Penguins - and Nedved slightly later for a couple of years.

I feel like there are more teams with a legit chance this year than recent years. Many of last years playoff teams have strengthened their ranks and some other teams like the Islanders and Predators have came out of nowhere.

All this talk of Presidents though, the NYR have just taken the prime spot in the race for it despite getting little to no mention up to now. They have had games in hand for so long that they were maybe being overlooked.
I thought last years final spot was a little surprising for their team but maybe not - they have improved since and are another genuine contender. Saying that, you have to consider a teams division where they play the most games and the Metro offers up some weaker opponents. Consider that Vs teams the Blues or Ducks have to play regularly to get the same amount of points. Central in particular is easily the hardest division right now.

When I was a kid I never really followed a specific team either, Again Jagr and Lemieux were favourites but would watch anything.

It's only relatively recently we've become Caps fans, we ended up coming over a few years ago with some friends who were Caps mad and catching some games and now we're hooked on them. Try to make it over once a year, and make sure we watch every game when at home albeit usually the day after. Always frustrating if can't watch it the next day as have to avoid all media (including this thread) to not find out the result!

Last nights game was frustrating, loads of people left after the third goal lol. Caps just didn't look like a team that's had 4 days rest, although no Green or Orpik has got to hurt. Kuznetsov played great though, he's rather inconsistent but last night thought he looked great.

Rangers are scarily good at the moment, with the games in hand they'll take the division I'd have thought. Not looking forward to the playoffs if we get them.

Did meet Trotz yesterday at practice though, was a thoroughly nice guy to chat to. Just off to catch today's practice, then Dallas tomorrow night with seats right behind the players bench ;)

Only reason I support the ducks is because I was a huge fan of the films when I was younger :D

Annnddd we're back to our losing ways :( Rangers top and like 4 games in hand, ducks will probably get knocked out first or second round of the cup at this rate :(

Really wish I could get over for some games. Was looking at end of March to catch the Blues 3 games at home within 4-5 days but flights didn't work out very well.

£750 return flight for 4 days. £350 return flight for 7 days....
But I don't want to go for 7 days by myself!! So annoying.
Just the way flights tend to be though unfortunately so will have to make sure our next holiday after South Korea is over that way but within the months of the NHL season.

Deff agree Rangers most likely to take the division like. Islanders were destroying them early in the season but they have been red hot for months now and being without their main goalie too for a long period. Talbot is certainly not as good but he's been pretty solid.

As I've mentioned before, goaltending is my main concern for the Blues. Elliot is immense on his day but yet more soft goals VS the jets the other night. allen has let in some sloppy goals too.

I don't think there will be any easy playoff game, or automatic result like. Hopefully have some tough games on each side and end up with an even final.

I wonder if the Ducks for a lot of fans from that? Are the films anything to do with the team starting? I mean Hockey was never that big in California but it's become much more so these days.

Film came out in 1992 and Disney started the team in 1993, could be that the disney exec's saw how everyone liked it and thought we would start a team after it. (they did make 2 more films after all!)

Good way of getting people into the sport imo.

and finally I can watch a game tonight, Ducks vs Wild at 12. 55" screen of HD hockey (well now since I found a way around the "someone else has broadcasting rights for this game") :D

Will be at the Caps Dallas game tonight, looking forward to it as got some seats close to the benches. It's naff for watching the whole game sitting so low and close but get a bit closer to other goings on between the benches :)

Quite glad we had the behind the bench seats as couldn't really see the game as a whole, which considering how it went wasn't a bad thing!

Glad we tried the seats out though as was cool being so close to all the other stuff that goes on on the benches, and got given a puck by Alan May who was such a nice guy.

Off to watch practice again now, there wasn't supposed to be any today however after last night they scheduled one!

Thank god Caps decided to play good again, last game of the trip and a nice shut out against the Bruins :) had some quite obnoxious Bruins fans behind us, was funny seeing them get quieter as the game went on before leaving early ;)

7-2 against Detroit.

Then lose in a SO to the Sens.

I dont know what is happening anymore.

4 - 2 win against the preds, all 4 goals in the 3rd after going 0 - 2 :D Come back kings!

I think the preds have lost it now, they keep choking on games and most likely pushed to early on. Rangers have done well, came out of no-where and sitting at the top with 3 games in hand.

Still gonna be a close one at the finish.

I think a lot of teams are getting a little inconsistent now but the top teams grind out the results. Preds though...a few weeks ago they were looking like they would run away with it but now are going to have trouble finishing in front of Chicago.
Blues faves for Division and hopefully therefore an easier game in the 1st round.

they have the team to win the cup, but need playoff victory confidence after years and years of failing.

Blues have had trouble offensively but in a couple of cases it was more the goaltenders performing well. Brilliant 0-0 game against the Flyers where Mason kept them in it and a very sluggish 2 periods against Dallas but got it together at the end for a comfortable win despite a shocking performance.

Still looking to be a tight finish all around. Going to be an intense final 10-12 games of the season for many teams and us fans.

I hate to say it too - but despite how awful Boston have looked they could easily surprise some teams with a deep playoff run - it is Boston after all.

In the overall league though, everyone down to 21st/22nd position can still make the playoffs. this is why we love ice Hockey.
Last week, after 68-69 games played, top 6 teams ALL had 91 points, with Islanders on 90. So competitive.

I believe Flyers are completely out of it now though. Florida will be out unless they put a 5 game streak together right now which is unlikely.
So, only Ottowa still have a chance in the East IMO.
Flyers would need to win twice as many games as Bruins to catch them and that's not going to happen like.

They have got a pretty tough schedule mind you. And Panthers play them 3 times - so that could turn out crucial.

Last night was good for the Caps with Pens, Bruins and Isles all losing!

Buffalo seem to have decided to try again now, took both their last two games to OT/Shootout.

Top of the West. Go Blues!!

*COUGH* *COUGH* :D

(though 2 games in hand so doesn't really count :p)

Also the Queens get beaten again! I'm rooting for the jets now.

edit: After watching the replays again seems Quick decided to lose his cool over the second goal lol, looks like he thinks he was interfered with when the guy didn't even touch him!
