** NHL & Ice Hockey Discussion **

How is everyone watching this year?
not had any indication when GCL will be available yet but I have been considering trying HockeyStreams this year. mainly to avoid having to mess around bypassing blackouts.

anyone else use that service?

I've used GCL for a while, it's nice but blackouts are annoying. I think for now since I know I'm not going to be able to catch every game I'll rely on r/hockeystreams vlc plugin.

Anyone catch the pre-season games that went on last night? Sucks having to get up for work or I would have stayed up.

Ill be letting mine renew, no issues last year and works very well on Xbox.

I've used GCL for a while, it's nice but blackouts are annoying.

Easily avoidable via a DNS service on the xbox or PS3/4 :) I use a decent service which costs roughly £4/month and can watch any game I want :)

I saw that GCL mail on reddit too but havent had a mail myself to renew. Perhaps because I got my sub through google play.

Will just have to keep an eye out I think. Did some reading into hockeystreams and really cant be bothered with it now so just going to go with GCL again and use adfreetime to get round blackouts

Just tried to watch some pre season games on GCL. Getting very bad stuttering at all quality levels. What's going on? Anyone else getting the same?

edit* tried it again at work this morning. same problems. very odd.

edit2* same story on a colleagues computer and a different browser.

Was that live or recorded? Haven't seen any of the Ducks as I don't think they were televised :( Although now seeing that the Col vs Ana was

Although seems fine for me at work, using Chrome on high quality and no stuttering on the recorded ones.

lol.....good skaters still need hockey brains! I know plenty of great 'general skaters' who couldn't read the game if it was written in 72pt bold right in front of them :)
You can always tell the diff between a classically trained hockey player and a really good skater who picks up a stick and tries dangling everyone.
Bristol Pitbulls will likely be your local team. So there may well be a HockeyUK school associated with it. Worth a try. Good luck buddy.

It seems to have got better now, none of them have been live, i just wanted to catch up on what has been going on.

I contacted CGL support and they told me [after fobbing me off several times] that they are just doing testing feeds and that I shouldn't be able to watch pre season games anyway. morons.

for anyone wanting to watch some great hockey, the Wild vs Jets game was immense. 8-1 or something with some insane hockey going on.

anyone know if there is a hockey team in bristol or anything? I'd love to give it ago, I'm pretty decent on the ice.

http://www.eiharec.co.uk/team_list.php

that is a list of all the registered recreational teams in the UK. find the closest one and join up. That's how I started playing Ice Hockey.

I can skate that's as far as it goes :/ But I love watching the sport! and always fancied it! coming from South Africa they don't have much of a team haha

Lol, SA, wow. yeah, get on it mate, you'll love it.
I'm a terrible skater but can read the game well. The team i used to train with used to joke about getting the best skater to push me and let me do the stick work and directing.
I'm actually doing my skateUK lessons on a thursday. :D

I've done some reading, I used to skate up at bristol Ice Rink, But I believe it's now been closed down :/ And think Bristol Pitbulls train and play up at Oxford now... So that kinda sucks, Apparently they are building a huge Indoor Rink with sky diving ect by Cribbs Causeway.

Yup Bristol rink closed, turned to student flats or something :(

They were supposed to be building a nice new proper size/shape rink in Plymouth which would have been so nice but that plan seems to have died :(

As much as I enjoy roller I miss playing ice

I see the referees have had a lovely off season. the jackass officiating the Rangers Flyers pre season game made a shocking 'hooking' call and gave the rangers a penalty shot.
[it was a stick lift which is perfectly legal btw]

trying not to be salty about it but its hard not to when Voracek was blatantly tripped at the other end of the ice moments prior...

not many days left until the season starts now. very exciting times.

also, for your entertainment:

Big G and some scrub tier player called Bobby Ryan having a good chirp at eachother here.
