NieR: Automata announced for PC, game shipping Early 2017 on both platforms

The graphics can look surprisingly great at times but it's still a low-budget game, it doesn't look fantastic unfortunately. I bet they spent most of the money on the utterly amazing OST:p

I guess Squenix didn't expect the game to make such a fuss and skimped on post-launch support. The port is rubbish.

Yeah I managed to boost the average frames to over 55 with an aggressive overclock but when you consider the same settings push an average of over 85 frames on Rise of The Tomb Raider which looks stunning it puts in to perspective the difference in optimisation.

Be interested in what you make of the game. I thought it was fantastic but it wasn't everyone's cup of tea...! :)

So far I think it's great. I love these style of games - to me they are the natural evolution of older style games, before first person was a thing. I always have time for these type of games; I love the Darksiders and Castlevania Lords of Shadows games for example. Early days yet though, just clearing out machines in the desert at the moment.

I do have a question though, in the intro it automatically applied any health recovery items I had but it doesn't seem to that in the main game - is this the way it is or is there a setting you need to apply to make that happen?

It probably did that because you had the game on easy with auto recovery chip enabled. Everything about your character is governed by the chip system, you can remove chips that display e.g. HUD elements to make space for others if you feel you don't need the mini map etc. You can even remove
your OS chip which results in a joke ending:p

As for the game, it's not perfect graphically, high-budget and not flawless overall etc. but as a whole it's one of the most memorable titles I've ever played. It does things no other game does and does them in ways that I find really charmingly executed, without delving into spoilers as there's a lot to be said here. First few hours are relatively tame.

Even the genre mish-mash is done tastefully. It doesn't pretend it's not a game, it uses that fact to get across some really clever stuff. I wish I didn't know certain things yet but I'll still go for 100% to see all of it:p

Edit: But I absolutely agree that it's not for everyone as it's, ummm... very weird.

So, is this worth £16.99? I heard the port sucks, is this still true? I've got Ni Nu Kuni 2 for the PS4 waiting, but was going to give this a go before I tackled it. I heard the story is above average?

Well worth £17 and some much replayability. Whilst it isn't a great port, it still runs very nicely and the story is great. I completed Ni No Kuni 2 and really enjoyed that also :)

I will have to get it, haven't had a JRPG session for years, so I think I'll start here then NNK ready for the new Dragon Quest :)

I honestly played the game vanilla on PC. No mods at all and it ran really well. Some of the areas graphics wise are very basic but you can tell that was probably to allow the PS4 to run at a good frame rate. Especially when you get loads of robots attacking at the same time and you got ham with 2B!

Finally got the true ending. What a great game.
I do wish we had more playtime with A2

The music in the final mini game is incredible it fits so well.
Also screw the square enix logo, got stuck on that so many times.

Just finished it Nate. Thought it was fantastic. Loved the variety in gameplay, the concept, story and execution there of. Funny, charming and full of emotion. The musical score too was awesome. Don't think I'll ever play anything quite like it again.

Great that you liked it and I'm with you in your mini review there.

Well, I can only repeat what I've already said multiple times like a broken record but I won't:p

I'm also sure that I won't play anything as unique for a long time. That's why I hope Yoko Taro doesn't abandon the franchise and I'm glad it's found at least some appreciation here and sold well enough.

The OST is still in my head.

I don't like to use the term "best ever" but with the regard the soundtrack...

I started the Steam download and thought I would see what all the fuss is about re the music so stuck it on Youtube and listened to it when I went to bed.

It was/is awesome and I already knew I was going love the game before playing it which is a first lol... :)

You're obviously right about the term but I can hardly remember a more impactful and outlandishly beautiful soundtrack in the last few years at least as Silent Hill series is way old:D I especially like how the music changes when you move from place to place and becomes subdued/more intensive depending on the situation.

Edit: Have you guys gone for
the secret boss fights
? I wanted to tie everything up when I finished it but didn't have the time so I'll go back to it soon.
There's one when you upgrade all the weapons in the game to max, the rabbit statue and Emil. Also some joke endings connected with that, I believe.

I haven't yet no but did intend to go back after a while after being advised about going back to talk to the Resistance woman. Going to play We Happy Few and then go back to it...

I miss around 7 quests, will have to chapter jump a bit. I haven't completed all the DLC arenas either and miss a couple of fish for the Encyclopaedia. I also want to redo certain segments for different dialogue choices/ending variations and get all joke endings. Quite near 100% but still a bit to go through.

Currently at £19.99 on Steam for another 31 hours from time of posting. A record low according to isthereanydeal (which doesn't include sites such as cdkeys and G2A).

I've installed FAR mod and 21:9 mod (by Jack Fuste) and am currently compressing the cutscene video files for 60FPS and 21:9 support with VidSquish. That should do it right?

Anyway, main reason for posting is to draw attention to the deal... not sure £20 is worth posting in the specific deal thread but anyone interested in this specific game might be interested at that price.
