Nigel Adkins axed

Fans have still got to get behind the new manager. It's totally counter productive not to do so, particularly as the TV money for next season could make a dramatic difference in the club's future.

Adkins will not struggle to find work, we can all be sure of that. I felt similar but obviously not as bad when Pardew was sacked out of the blue and that worked out well.

Got to give him a chance.

He's going to have it tough, Adkins was a hugely well liked manager here. Performance anything less than securing a solid mid table finish isn't good enough to be worth outing one of the best managers we have had for many years.

I hope we don't I would rather see the club relegated and back in administration than the fans sit on their hands and except that this is now what Southampton FC represents.

Cortese out.

This is very strange to say the least.

I know Southampton had a rough start but he's pretty much turned it around now and they were finding some fairly good form. Not to mention they were fairly unfortunate at the start of the season anyway and did have some good performances (vs us, Man City, etc).

The fans must be livid.

Out of all this I hope Adkins gets a job at a club where he is going to be appreciated more.

Really can't believe this has happened, he seemed like he was doing a good job and Saints were getting some results too!

What the hell?

I thought Southampton were putting together some good results/performances, and against top teams as well.

He would be welcomed back to Scunny to be their physio again. With Brian Laws as current manager it'll be like the last 5 years never happened. :) Seriously though, since Nigel Adkins left Scunthorpe I've followed what he's done with a smile on my face. Just as Saints fans will now be feeling, you can't help buy like the guy and thank him for what he acheived with your club. It really is quite remarkable what he did at Scunthorpe.

Exactly, he's a quality manager and beyond that he is a really likeable honest bloke. Such a shame to see his association with our club end like this when I think given a chance he could have done for us what Moyes has done for Everton only achieving more as we seem to have deeper pockets these days.

I certainly agree that it is a harsh decision, I believe that Pochettino is a good manager, however, it could go either way. Pochettino could take Southampton on to bigger and better things or he could take them down. I think it is certainly a big risk, you can never say for certain, but Adkins could certainly have kept Southampton up but there is always a chance they could have gone down.

I don't think it's fair to compare this to Wolves, as Wolves were struggling and sacked Mick.

Weird decision from the outside. Always keep an eye on Southampton's results (friends & family there), and they seemed to be sorting themselves out pretty well on the pitch last month or so.

Seems like you can't even keep your job being a manager when you're doing well.

Would laugh if they went down now lol

Crazy. Just crazy.

Just as he and the team where starting to get the results they needed. I fear they will most likely be relegated now.

Pochettino: "I know about the #saintsfc squad because I've been researching them for several weeks'. Several weeks.

:/

I suppose seven weeks ago they weren't in great form but surely when Adkins turns it around like he has done recently you support him?

A couple of Spanish pundits on Talksport were talking the new guy up as potentially the next Mourinho, Southampton must believe the same but it's still a big risk and it's not like they're in QPR's position.

It's like someone else said though, even if he does turn out to be the next Mourinho Southampton will just be a short term stepping stone for him.
