Nigel Adkins axed

Very disappointed by Southampton. I think Adkins is one of the best English managers around at the moment.

He has a genuine honest competitiveness to his style, and I don't think there are that many open and honest managers in the game at the moment, too many cover for their players too much, or blame their players when things aren't going right. Adkins, similarly to McDermott at Reading, gives truthful assessments of games and situations.

Great shame he's gone as his work at Southampton has been excellent. Will be interesting to see where he ends up next, but I genuinely hope it's a decent Championship team (if not Premiership) and it's a shame that jobs like Nottingham Forest get given to people like McLeish. Although I suppose Blackpool is still an option for Adkins, and they seem to have a chairman who's ambitious.

All about the money, that billions tv deal.

Same happend to us at forest, same with the others desperate to be there. From the fear of not going up, to the drop. If forest get naf all this season, we got what we deserved when we embraced the mercenarys that took over the club.... id be more than happy to start watching them over in local non league when the worst comes and the owners dump us.

Of all the changes though this trumps them all, southampton were only going to get better under adkins, and for what little my opinions worth, it probably would have been enough to secure the top flight.

Unlucky fella, not about the football/game, only the money pot:(

That's really sad and I want him to do well and be back in management at a good side.

I really believe any team in the country would do well to have him as manager and am gutted it is no longer us.

If that's true then that is a typical nice touch of class by him.

You can buy talent, you can pay for a reputation but class is priceless :(

That little emocon sums up everything I can say on the subject.

It's very likely that they could lose their next five games depending on how Wigan and Newcastle perform, it doesn't make much sense rocking the boat ahead of some tough games (Everton, Man C, Man U) when things were already going quite well.

It's getting to the point with managers being fired where I'm wishing the FA would implement some sort of system where a team has to register their manager before the season starts and can only change them at the end of the season.

I have to back track badly from the proper 5 stages of grief things last week when the news broke.

Cold light of day it is sad it happened, Cortese could have done it a lot more tactful but it done. New guy is basically the same but instead of getting good performances out of terrible players he get the better side of talented players (current assessment of the Everton game).

Overall now disappointed Adkins is gone, glad we haven't sacked him for a gibbering idiot.

:/

Agreed, if the FA got involved it would be a disaster. It would be nice if chairmen explained their thinking a little bit to the fans though, there should be some accountability.

Why? It's the price you pay. Chelsea fans have no voice in their club, they gave up that right when the club was sold. The owners of football clubs don't need to answer to anyone and can do as they please.

The problem once again, lies with the FA, they should (imho) adopt the German model.

Depends on the club tbh, the Citys and Chelseas of this world aren't dependent on matchday revenue whereas a club like Southampton is so the fans should be given a bit more respect.

The total lack of class still has me realing, a servant of the club like Adkins deserved more respect than finding out he was fired from Sky Sports News and more of a thankyou than 11 words in the second paragraph of a press release. I appreciate that Cortese thinks the decision is right but there are ways of doing things which don't make the club look a total disgrace.

Yeah I don't disagree but (to go into Adkins mode) what's done is done, we have to draw a blue line under it and prepare for the next game...

I wish our chairman didn't chew him up and spit him out like that but there is no real way to change the past, especially as some fans were calling for his head at all sorts of silly points in the season (after United at home was the most over the top even if he did muck that match up).

Like you say blue line drawn, I will be keeping an eye out for Adkins return to management though and wish him all the success he deserves.
