Inspired by the new Golf advert "Night Drive" Im curious to find out "When was the last time you just went for a drive" by this I mean when was the last time you just went out for the hell of it day or night, perhaps you only use your car when you need to?, for me it was a few weeks ago I just went out at about 11PM it's so quiet around that time I just found it really peaceful and calm with next to no traffic maybe it's just me :D, good advert all the same IMO.

The 2 times ive done this... ( both times to get something from the 24hr asda ) i got stopped by the police!. Seems that driving at the speed limit and at anything between 2Am and 5AM is "suspicious"

i go for a drive (for the sake of it) quite often, last time was probably last week, wouldn't have been far though coz i can't remember where i went, but in the last month i've drove to the lakes for the day, through the north yorkshire moors and to High Force near Barnard castle. I love just going out for the sake of it.

I used to do more miles "for the sake of it" than I did for daily driving.

Don't so it so much now because I have this thing called a mortgage that sucks a decent portion of the cash :D

Have done a few times. Sometimes it's nice to relax and concentrate on your gear changes etc - instead of where the hell your going, or when the queue in front of you is going to shift forwards another meter or not

Was just about to say Im a totally different driver when it's all quiet and I have no other distractions. It's lovely.

Also wez you live very close to me some nice roads up here, especially the road to Whitby over the Moors, also I've drove to Goathland where Heartbeat is filmed now that was a lovely drive. Some awesome sights.

Ironically enough, I posted this up on PreludeUK yesterday...

I had a spare couple of hours on Friday night, as my GF was in Norwich during the day, and when I got to hers, she hadn't even left! As her younger sister was at home with some friends, and didn't want to stay in with them, I decided to go out for a drive in the lude.

Route I took (courtesy of Google Maps ;))

OH MY GOD! I now remember why I enjoy driving the 'lude so much. I just had so much fun! I wound down the windows, opened the sunroof, set the heater to hot, and went for a lovely blast around the Colchester outskirts/countryside :)

The fuel gauge dropped from 8 bars to 2 bars as I got back into Colchester, but then went up to 4 again once I'd slowed down on the approach in, and about 30 miles, but it was so much fun. Knocked a good 30 miles off my tankful run - so I'd estimate about 15mpg on the blast!!

Throughout the whole run I hardly came out of 2nd gear, in some places even VTEC in 2nd was going too fast for the roads!!!

This is the first time since the car went back on the road in June that I've had a proper chance to give it some beans, and it's been well over a year since last doing so (it'll have been a year this weekend that I had my accident!), and I will definitely have to do it more regularly!!

While I was out I thought to myself - why should I bother with trying to fit the supercharger I've got at home? It's probably just going to be expense, hassle, and lose me reliability, when what I've got can still put a mahoosive grin on my face, and is plenty fast enough for blasting around country lanes anyway! So I'm now very close to just relisting the superchargers on Ebay and spending the money on fuel instead! ;)

I do it all the time if I’ve got something on my mind it helps me relax. I love driving late at night when it’s quiet and there is no one around.

There are some fantastic roads in this Area, have you done the Stokesley road (B1257) From Stokesly to Helmsley, that is probs my favourite road, i also like the A174 coast road from Marske to Scarborough, and finally the A169 from Whitby to Richmond is another Awesome road, most of the other OcUkers would envy the choice we have :D

Another great road is from Barnard Castle to High Force but that's a trek in itself to get to.

Driving at night gives you more chance to appreciate the drive and the car it self IMO. Everything is turned down a notch from hectic and it's just awesome to relax. Very rewarding may start doing it more.

I used to do it a lot, but I don't have time anymore.

It's awesome just putting the roof down on a sunny day and going on a random drive down some tight twisty roads.

Now I just seem to drive to work and back without wasting to much petrol. :(

I have done the Stokesly Road route more than a few times you can really open her up along there :D, also done the coast road a few times, they're some little hidden gems on the Moors though, it's just a case of coming across them if your up there :D. When you put it like that it does make me think and appreciate we have some awesome roads up here!.
