just chucked my 23andme data in to selfdecode.

dna think i should be early to bed and early rise, nope - although i do do that hen camping for extended time.
poor response to sleep deprivation - yep
and extremely poor sleep quality - yep

other things
choline, K2, omega 3 and vitamin B i absorb poorly
very high risk of lung cancer compared to normal people
increased muscle injury and poor athletic endurance.
high chance of depression, but i react well to it and all the anti depressant drugs listed are predicted to work poorly.
oh and if i ever have issues with the crown jewels, then Viagra is predicted to work poorly.

find this stuff so interesting. Wish i could get full sequence done(iirc its just dropped under 1k, need that to decrease to like 200), and that NHS had a trial where they took this and did preventive treatment and regular checks up. I bet it would cost less than the current reactive medicine we have. Like they could check the vitamin and mineral levels of the ones i'm predicted to absorb poorly.

My smoke alarm bleated out at 3.30am, which woke me up in a fit. Major anti climax, there was indeed no smoke or fire. Been awake since and with hangover too.

Smite me oh almighty smiter!!

First night shift in 7 days short off 6months.
However the sad lamp is working wonders when on days. 1hr or so when I wake up, and I'm finding it infinitely easier to fall asleep.

Could you explain the lamp? I struggle with sleeping and shifts. Also moods :)

its a stupidly bright lamp, 10000 lux i set it for 30 minutes before getting up and try and get between 60-90 minutes of exposure.

http://www.sad.org.uk/buying-a-sad-light/

it would be nice to have one that gradually came on, but those alarm clocks aren't bright enough and as far as i can see dont tae a bulb anywhere near bright enough.
The only sad lamp ive seen with alarm and gradual sunrise mimic is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261318233314?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

downside, is if you sleep with someone, it will wake them up as well. Although i suppose you could put one in the kitchen and have it on while having breakfast.

That's interesting, it's just a substitute for sunlight and only works if you're waking for a nightshirt then?

yep and nope. I use it all the time.
with curtains closed and sun light being so minimal in the Uk, it should help set circadian rhythm. Days, n
ight or anything in between.
can get a cheap one off ebay for like £25 and pair it with a socket timer.

Without sufficient levels of morning light our bodies circadian rhythms are not triggered and our body fails to produce the hormones required to feel wide awake. During the day if we do not receive enough sunlight we feel sluggish, lethargic and low in energy and at night we stay awake long after darkness which can result in lack of sleep, disrupted sleep patterns and mood swings. In summary if we do not receive sunlight at the correct times and in sufficient quantities we can upset our body clock to such a degree that the symptoms of SAD ensue.

I find I wake up with so much despair but once I'm up and moving or at work everything is fine. Do often wonder why this is, considering I don't dread work whatsoever. Just a mornings thing maybe!
Cheers

for 3 weeks I have had an amazing sleep pattern and felt so good for it, more or less midnight till 8 am. But for the life of me can't sleep tonight. Got a big choice to make and can't shut my brain off.

Can't remember the last time I had a good sleeping pattern. Got home from work and just crashed - deep deep sleep from about 9pm to 11pm now too awake to sleep any time soon. But can't do anything without risking waking other people :|

I'm on holiday from work this week and doing sweet FA mostly, the usual up all night sleep through the day scenario. Just got back from the local 24hr jet wash and refueled the car while I was out. To be honest it more like a 10 mile round trip. Love it when it's quiet out.

Here I am awake at 3am as usual trying to find something to watch on the box. I have so many sleep disorders but have pretty much learned to live with them. Not being able to work means the lack of non restorative sleep does not impact on my life much. But I sure would love one full night of sleep, just once a month would do.

Back to the rubbish on the TV the BBC's world news channel is appalling in its lack of content and predominately American news. As there is little to do at this time of the day I decided to take a note of an hour's content on the news channel and there us actually only around 17 minutes in any one hour with much if the world getting little or no coverage yet if Trump breaks wind them you can expect wall to wall coverage.
Ah ha the my cat Millie has just come in soaking wet and looking to rub herself about me, lovely stuff.
