Ninja Gaiden II

I've only fought it once so far and beat it, but I switched it off because I felt I used too many healing items.

My strategy is similar to the ones already posted, but instead of using ninpo against the mini-boss monsters I just ran straight at them and used flying swallow and it seems to work quite well for me.

I've tried plenty of tactics against those thing so far including jumping away and shooting them with the bow, doing the YYYYYYY attackw with lunar, but so far ninpo is the easiest one, used it twice when i did it on warrior, just saved me from having to use too many potions. But on warrior i seem to be making some serious cash which alows me to buy plenty of herbs easily, as in well over 100k by chapter 6... i do tend to spam UTs though.

Awesome, just got to chapter 8 on warrior, those missle guys are so frustrating. But does anyone think those large mechanical fiends which are introduced in chapter 7 look like hydralisks? It's all i think when i fight them.

Getting pretty good at this now. Beating bosses such as Alexei on warrior with no health upgrades, using only one spiritual life herb, and only 2 non-upgraded inferno ninpo and the dragon sword :)

Am forcing myself to keep to using as little as possible to make sure I fight as well as possible, and am surprised how much better am getting at it. If only there was a multiplayer, where you could face off against other people!

One of the most challenging enemies so far has to be the werewolves, when facing down a few at the same time. They sure do take a beating.

Though it can be a bit glitchy at times, think this is the most fun have had on my 360 since getting it a few months back :)

Has anyone found that there is sometimes a delay when using the quick menu? Earlier I was doing the insect worm boss and I was low on hp so I pressed quick menu and it came up but it didn't pause the actual game for about 3 seconds meaning I died. Really annoying. And when you continue with that boss you have to start from ages back not just at the begnning of the fight, grrrr!

I've noticed that in places this game actually looks really amazing, especially some of the enemies, and it's helped by the fact that it runs so smoothly a lot of the time. I played GoW earlier and I think in some places Ninja Gaiden actually looks better.

Best way to play IMO. I once got through Ninja Gaiden's Hurricane Pack without having to use a single ninpo simply because I didn't need them. I never needed to buy health because I always had a full inventory. Not relying on health packs makes you fight smarter I think, and that's a good thing :)

If you're in the middle of an enemy action your quick menu won't open, ie: you ahve to be just thrown out of their clutches. Would be a bit easy if you could heal a second before they drive a suicide knife in you and you explode.

About *** not using health potions... i try to stick to it but on bosses i tend to use lots of them, on alexi warrior mode i think i used all six herbs.

Well I finished the game on Acolyte earlier and as a whole I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even the end bosses. At first I thought I'd never do it as I had no health boosts or talisman of rebirth to use, but as soon as I'd learnt the boss' strategy I completed it easily. For me that's the mark of a decent game with bosses that are challenging but require thought and patience to beat, which ultimately is more rewarding when you do beat them.

Not sure if I want to play through the game again as it will mean buying it as its only on rental.....but as I've said I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Edit: I've quite fancied Devil May Cry 4 and now that I've played NG2 do you think I would enjoy DMC??

I think so, the general combat isn't quite as good but the story is better and the bosses more fun imo. Like the rating system in it better than NG2's as well.

Get Ninja Gaiden 1 if you haven't already. You should be able to pick that up for about the price of a rental

I did play the first one on original xbox and couldn't get the hang of it and gave after about 3 levels or something, not sure I'd want to play it again. Like I said I fancy DMC and might rent that tomorrow. The demo was fairly good.

After NG2 you might find it a bit thin. It's half button mashing, half anime. Cool if you like that sort of thing.

I love NG1 and 2 but couldn't finish Devil may cry 4. It is a bit button mashy and the camera is AWFUL because you cant really control it. I found most of it pretty frustrating.

Have been wondering about DMC 4 myself, but if its purely button mashing, then its not likely to be for me. Its things like that that put me off games like dynasty warriors and ninety ninen nights instantly - just smash x 1000 times, move, rinse repeat.

I like games with some depth to the combat, such as NG1 and 2, and Conan. Can anyone recommend other games with some slightly in-depth combat such as these?

NG 1 and 2 are the cream of the crop.

DMC4 is an anime film which you can spam buttons to beat, but I only managed to get half way through before I got too bored.

DMC4 isn't that button mashy tbh, higher difficulties require more skill. And the camera is far far better, its zoomed out enough that you can see what you are fighting most of the time, and you can lock on to enemies to look at them.

I find the camera in DMC4 worse tbh and it was one of the reasons I stopped playing it (the other being because of how much they screwed up the ranking system) As a game it just feels a lot more slow and clunky.

Where as Ninja Gaiden responds to my every move and does exactly what I tell it to do. The only time the camera goes screwy is in hallways/corridors (as it did in the first one) other then that I've had no problems with it really.

I had major problems fighting anything in the air, basically just had to hope the lock on thing was working (in fact I bet thats why they put it in there. Also had lots of problems trying to fight things on water as my right hand was pressing A constantly to jump on the water.

Another annoyance, WHY can't you just HOLD A to run on water? Instead of mashing the button like an idiot? Same for that crappy spear gun thing, which idiot designer thought having to continually mash B to fire an automatic gun should be shot. Such poor game design decisions.

Because you hold A to dive, and you don't always want to run on the water, you might miss something good in it :)

I agree with that. I thought the gun was broken at first as I didn't realise you had to keep pressing B :/

Does anyone find the underwater controls entirely confusing? They seem to be the reverse of most games, like forward normally makes you go forward not up and A is normally rise not swim down?
