Ninja Gaiden II

********************possible spoilers*********************

Having a good time with this, but only on acolyte right now. Getting towards the end I think - just after those 2 armadillo things and that flame god thing.

Though I get really ****** when I get through a boss without using too many items, only to die at the hands of something stupid, like those hell hounds or silly mine things!

The worst boos fights for me so far have to be the armadillo things and the dragons!

Also, I wish they would not throw so many enemies at times that it becomes nigh on impossible to tell what is happening.

Will definitely be playing it through again, though I doubt I will ever get a full 1000 achievements as that would require playing probably at least a dozen times.

Anyone else managed to get the 100 hit combo achievement yet?

Playing through on Way of the Warrior atm, decided to get the Dragon Sword master achievement whilst I'm at it, but looking at the other weapon achievements - eg. Lunar Staff Master - Complete the game using only the Lunar Staff, how the hell are you supposed to do that? You don't start off with the with Lunar Staff, you have to use the Dragon Sword until you obtain it.

I was wondering about this myself last night. I can only assume that once you have played it through all the way, all weapons are immediately available the next time you play through.

Yes. Well, the ones you found, anyway. Also the crystal skulls are kept from the last play. And the amount of ultimate technique/obliteration kills (for the achievements)

They are, only on the difficulty you beat the game on, so if you want the weapon achievements, I'd suggest doing them on Acolyte as it will be so much easier.

By what I've read, once you complete the game once you get all weapons upon starting a new game ;)
Word of warning when your going for single weapon achievments; in some fights you gain a weapon automatically - you must unequip it when this happens!

Well I completed it on Acolyte, now playing through on Warrior, and I only started with the Dragon Sword.

Some of the bosses especially the ones on Chapter 12 can be very difficult firstly because of the RIDICULOUSLY CRAPPY POOR PIECE OF **** CAMERA, and secondly because their attack patterns are entirely random and often, they will act in a certain way in which it is very difficult(Or sometimes impossible depending on your items) to kill them, and so the only way to really kill them is purely by luck, them performing certain moves or acting in a certain way which allows you to kill them.

Hang on, you're complaining because the bosses aren't acting in a straightforward way making it easy for you to figure out their tactics and making it easy for you? Isn't that kind of the point?

Hmm, that kind of sucks. Should have just had them available on all difficulties. Though, if was going to play though on next difficulty is not too bad then I guess, and can still get through it using only the dragon sword, so will get the extra achievement too.

Am glad UT and OT killings get carried over though, along with collected skulls - though how many are there?

Never been interested in achievements prior to this game, but its got some fun, challenging ones :)

Agreed. I was not sure how I felt about this at first myself, but I think overall it is better this way.

Though the randomness of the boss attacks can be frustrating and make fights inconsistent (one time you will get through easily, sometimes die over and over)

There are still particular ways to fight bosses, and attacks that dont work and some that work better than others, so it does keep you on your toes.

I think it's better that way. The challenge is meant to go up as you progress, and if you take a load of fully levelled weapons with you as you go up in difficulty it won't be as hard. I'd rather it be the way it is.

And there are 30 crystal skulls :)

Agree completely with Davey. This game should be good for a few playthroughs :) At the end of the day the achievements are there to lengthen the life of the game, not shorten it. How it should be.

Well no, because there isn't really any tactics as such, it's just pure luck how they happen to act on that attempt. Figuring out the 'tactics' doesn't help at all if they happen to act in a way that is less favourable for you.

One boss for example, he either goes in the air and attacks or lands and does some attacks.

Firstly, he's nearly impossible to damage whilst he is in the air. On some attempts he stays in the air for god damn ages, on some attempts he would just stay on the ground for ages so I could damage him easily. Nothing to do with skill it was just luck, randomness how he happens to act on that attempt.

Also on the same boss, whilst he's on the ground he either does standard melee attacks or he does spells such as a lazer beam thing or fire balls. Now his melee attacks are pretty easy to block and avoid. If he happens to only or mostly perform melee attacks whilst he's on the ground, he's a piece of cake. However, on some attempts for me he casted loads of spells which are near impossible to avoid when you're even remotely close to him (Which you will be because you're trying to damage him with melee attacks, and his spells are very spontaneous and it's not possible to anticipate them.

Some attempts are a piece of cake, others are ridiculously difficulty purely down to randomness/bad luck...etc. It's stupid.

They don't have to be fully levelled do they? They're all about the same in terms of power I assume, so what's the problem with starting with the ones you obtained earlier but just at the lowest level? To me this just seems like some lame attempt to increase the longevity of the game.

I've not got to the boss you mention yet, but the same thing happened in the first game with Alma. She could spend ages in the air throwing fireballs and rocks at you, then charge towards you, or she could stalk you from the ground. The secret was knowing how to defend against whatever she was chucking at you. I would hazard a guess this boss is the same. All bosses are easy to beat when you know how. The first game was the same. People got absolutely destroyed by Alma because they didn't know how to handle her. I did know how to beat her, and she was easy then.

To me it just makes gaming sense. In pretty much every game when you start a new game on a harder difficulty you get the same as other levels, if not less. Hell, on Resident Evil 4 if you started on easy you had a shotgun from the beginning, which you had to go and find if you played on other difficulties. Perhaps you should be thankful you have the option at all to go through with all the weapons you've found, rather than being upset you can't do it on all difficulties.

Yay, finally finished it (three days is not long!) and i got 13million karma which is about 7000th in the world or something. But whilst looking at the leader boards it has crashed there, so i suspect i will have to kill the end boss again to get the weapons next time i play.

[EDIT] damnit, my autosave is still before the boss even though my score was uploaded :(.

Yep, happened to me once also. Not sure what causes it but I know that it is not an issue with Ninja Gaiden. Mortal Kombat 3 has crashed for me a few times whilst accessing/browsing the leaderboards also.

Don't worry about that, once you get to Chapter 9 and get the Vigoorian Flail. You'll be getting triple figure combos like it was going out of fashion.
