*** Nintendo Switch ***

Hi,

Thinking of getting a Switch as I'm moving house soon and wont have time to setup and use my PC in between all the decorating etc so the Switch might fill my gaming needs.
Its been many years since I bought a console so I have some questions please,

There doesn't seem to be any bundles with games, am I missing something?

Do I need an internet connection for initial setup and anytime after that?

Do you need an account and monthly subscription like Xbox?

Can you buy used games without any issues?

Are there any other outputs for sound other than HDMI?

Thanks

Do I need an internet connection for initial setup and anytime after that? - Yes so you update the console and for future updates.

Do you need an account and monthly subscription like Xbox? - At the moment you can play for free online, but their will be paid service this year it should around £20, details should be out in may.

Can you buy used games without any issues? - Yes just put it in and it works :)

Are there any other outputs for sound other than HDMI? - 3.5 mm audio jack on the switch I have not tried it when its docked tho.... but it also supports bluetooth.

Thanks

I’m being a right nub here but on Stardew Valley how do you drop things on the Anvil? Or how do you select things for the events?

Is there any reason NOT to buy a Switch at the moment in light of the flaw? I guess Nintendo and Nvidia will get round to fixing the flaw but that would probably take months to design, test and produce the new chips and then more time for the new chip to be integrated into the Switches and then more time to distribute them around the world.

I can't see any reason to hold fire, the hackable versions are likely to hold their value but for people who want to go that route and the "fixed" versions are unlikely to offer any benefits. There were rumours about a memory upgrade to 8GB but I don't know if that's just idle gossip (and I don't think it's tied to the nvidia flaw).

There is a new chip on its way, but from what I understand it will offer no increase in performance, it is just to mitigate some flaws in the original tegra.

They are in the process of redoing a joycon to fix the signal issues but I have never had an issue.

Honestly I don't think buying one pre-patch is worth even factoring in to your decision. There are ~20m un-patchable Switch's out there so anyone interested in doing anything like that will find plenty for sale.

The joy-con redesign might be worth waiting on but then again Nintendo will fix and issues and potentially replace a faulty controller with the new style when they come out if you send it back.

The updated Switch is likely to fix the poor WiFi and controller signal issues at the same time as sorting out the vulnerability.

Love this type of game, but not a fan of this type of game on something like a switch, where screen is landscape but the game is in portrait
