NIP

So helpful some you, not. Tell me something I don't know. It was unmarked cop car with tinted windows. Not something I do normally, but he was driving really slow. Probably to encourage me to be stupid. Can anyone give me a reasonable answer to my question, or am I just going to get smart ass comments?

Can anyone tell me the penalty for driving a mechanically propelled vehicle in a public place without reasonable consideration to other users

Driving a mechanical vehicle without reasonable consideration is known as careless driving and carries a penalty of 3 to 9 penalty points, a discretionary disqualification, and a fine of up to £5,000. Minor incidents may result in a fixed penalty notice (FPN) with 3 points and a £100 fine, or an offer of a Driver Improvement Course to avoid points. In more serious cases or if the fixed penalty is rejected, you will be summoned to court for sentencing, according to AH Solicitors.
Google says:

"Driving without reasonable consideration for other users can result in a fixed penalty of 3 penalty points and a £100 fine. However, the offence can also be prosecuted in court, leading to 3 to 9 penalty points, a discretionary driving ban, and a fine of up to £5,000. The severity of the penalty depends on the nature of the incident and the specific circumstances of the driving."

Bad signs would presumably be if the driving caused or nearly caused an accident and whether the case is going to be prosecuted in court.
What was wrong with these perfectly good responses, right at the start of the thread?

The police will send the Offence Report to an admin centre where it will be uploaded and a decision will be made on the penalty and you will be written to.

I believe that (in Essex at least) that would result in a Course Offer, or, if you've had a Course within the last 3 years it will be a fine and points.

I had to take a Course a few years ago and the cost was £175 but no points on my licence. I could have taken a £100 fine and 3 points if I had wanted to.

It's just a minor traffic offence.

First day on the internet?

Also welcome to OcUK, where asking questions where you admit to having been a bit of a silly sausage will earn you the ribbing that you deserve for being a silly sausage

@Quartz I genuinely don't see how having a dashcam could disprove it. Sounds like it would be a video confession :p.

There are cases where you can legally undertake and showing that the police were driving excessively slowly would demonstrate that this was one such case.

There's merging when there's safe space to do so, and there's cutting people up... we don't know which is which, but presumably the dash cam in the police car will show it quite clearly, hence the NIP.

Fair enough but I think the key point will be proof of excessively slow speed, which as you say would require a dash cam. The OP says the traffic was slow moving, so I imagine it would be hard to justify.

Just about to hit the order button on a dash cam for new can next week, fed up of red light ignoring loonies and people who can't keep in lane :p.
