Can anyone tell me the penalty for driving a mechanically propelled vehicle in a public place without reasonable consideration to other users, basically undertaking then pulling infront of a unmarked police car ahead of slow moving traffic on a dual carriage way. Thanks in advance.

Driving a mechanical vehicle without reasonable consideration is known as careless driving and carries a penalty of 3 to 9 penalty points, a discretionary disqualification, and a fine of up to £5,000. Minor incidents may result in a fixed penalty notice (FPN) with 3 points and a £100 fine, or an offer of a Driver Improvement Course to avoid points. In more serious cases or if the fixed penalty is rejected, you will be summoned to court for sentencing, according to AH Solicitors.

Bad signs would presumably be if the driving caused or nearly caused an accident and whether the case is going to be prosecuted in court.

Your proper response is to write back saying you have dashcam footage which disproves the charge. You do have that dashcam footage, don't you?

You have admitted you undertook in your post, it is careless and inconsiderate driving under law regardless of whether or not they were Police.

.Undertaking and then cutting up another vehicle/ moving into thier braking space in front of them isn't recommended, especially if the other vehicle is a copper
