No charger with new phone (Pixel 6)

There's no reason that charger shouldn't work. Any USB charger from the beginning of time will work on the phone although obviously it may take days to charge on the original low current ones.

If it's not working then it's not Google's fault.

If not Google's then who's fault is that theirs is the only device which wont charge from the multiple USB C chargers we already have in the house? I've used that particular charger on a p20 pro, p30 pro, anker earbuds, steelseries headset, dualsense controller, quest 2, Nintendo switch, and the pixel is the only one it doesnt work with. The only one which actually works on it is the quest 2 charger, so its clearly extremely fussy about what it charges on. Which is fine, but if that IS the case then the environmentally friendly argument is nonsense, because it wont necessarily work on your old charger

It can't be that fussy... I'm using a charger from circa 2008 (it has a 3 pin on one end and a usb "female" at the other end which I then plug a Usb A to Usb C cable into it) and it works fine.

Although it's probably not very quick, It goes from 2% to fully charged by the time I wake up and the slower charging may be better for the battery so I'm happy with it.

It also works on my old Sony charger just fine (about 3 years old)

And on a side note, all these chargeable devices, be it phones, shavers, toothbrushes etc should all now be PD USB-C compliant since PD supports a wide range of voltages.

That would really cut down on e-waste and would mean everyone would one in their homes.

Yeah, that's fair enough, that way everything should be compatible, and everyone's happy.

For the next 3 years until the next standard comes out and we can chuck out all our otherwise perfectly functional old tech chargers and buy another new set. But its definitely to do with cutting down on waste and nothing at all to do with making money ;)

When you say not working, do you mean it doesn't detect the charger at all? I have various older chargers in the house and the ones that don't support USB-PD defaults back to 10W charging on my 6 Pro. Even the PC at work with super slow 5W charging still gets picked up by the phone.

it doesn't detect it at all, doesn't even register anything has been plugged in - neither the charger from my P20 Pro or my partner's P30 Pro, I could understand if these were very old chargers or cheap 3rd party ones, but they are the original Huawei ones and only a few years old. Maybe it's just a quirk with the Huawei ones, but still could have been easily avoided.

I can't hold Google completely responsible, as the network (ID) should really also have an advisory notice on the product page or when processing through the checkout. Ultimately not exactly the end of the world as I've got one coming tomorrow, but still very frustrating.

Just tried mine with a Huawei 40W charger....

Interesting. Doesn't work with the Huawei cable. But it does work with another cable. Problem solved. Huawei cable is incompatible.

Is yours a usb C or usb A on the charger?

A to C. Came with the Mate 20 Pro. It's the cable that's the issue. See above.

Huawei cable worked fine on a OnePlus 5.

Edit. I was going to post a pic of my drawer full of chargers. I feel a bit embarrassed to have sooo many. Almost like a stamp collection the variety I have.

How strange, I'll try a few other cables, cheers!

If its just the cable then they could at least have included a USB A-C cable in the box along with the C-C one, although curious what Huawei have done with their cables to make them not work with it

The problem you are seeing is down to the wiring/e-marker chip in the USB-C cable, Huawei and other Chinese brand phone use a proprietary setup rather than the defacto standardised USB-PD standard. That was in part due to the ever increasing competition and wanting to implement faster charging standards more quickly, and to stop them being used elsewhere/ So you can blame Google for wanting to stick to an actual 'real' standard that should work across all devices, or in other words make it easier for you to have a cable that would work across more devices.

So its your own fault for buying Chinese phones previously. :p

That's not strictly true. Pixels do use USB-PD for fast charging, but they support other USB-BC standards at lower power levels too. Just like Huawei chargers do.

Charger incompatibly does exist though, even when it should work. For example, my Samsung 25W charger supports USB-BC, USB-PD and USB-PPS. It doesn't charge an iPad mini 6th gen (USB-PD 20W). It should, but the iPad immediately disconnects the charger when you plug it in. Widely reported problem online. Standards don't completely guarantee compatibility, as silly as that is.

Huh, borrowed my family member's P30 charger and you're right. That is so weird. Works with any other cable except for the Huawei one. Yet it seems fine charging other devices. Even OP's stock chargers (30W and 65W) with their stock cables still work with the 6 Pro. My old Samsung and Sony chargers too. Even this "old" Nexus 6P charger... ironic considering Huawei made the 6P.

Oh well, not my charger anyway, so I don't use it :p.

Works with the Pixel 3 so it's just one of those anomalies/wiring configuration.

It is quite simply a way for manufacturers to save money. And absolutely nothing to do with "saving the environment". Look at the Pixel 6: to get the full fast charge speed you have to buy a certain charger so you can't just use your old one (I had a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger before I got my Pixel which doesn't charge fast on the Pixel), meaning you need to buy a charger anyway which is WORSE for the environment as it means 2 packages getting shipped to your house.
