No charger with new phone (Pixel 6)

It is quite simply a way for manufacturers to save money. And absolutely nothing to do with "saving the environment". Look at the Pixel 6: to get the full fast charge speed you have to buy a certain charger so you can't just use your old one (I had a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger before I got my Pixel which doesn't charge fast on the Pixel), meaning you need to buy a charger anyway which is WORSE for the environment as it means 2 packages getting shipped to your house.

To be fair, Qualcomm's QC is usually limited to SD devices and you have to pay royalty on top. USB-PD is the standard Pixels uses which was created by the group behind the USB standard, although it did come late to the party, hence why the fast charging scene is such a mess. Luckily a few other fast charging is also making their chargers USB-PD compatible so even though it's slow, we're eventually getting to the point everything will eventually faster charge other devices. Qualcomm did announce QC 4/4+ with USB-PD compatibility but for some reason it wasn't popular with manufacturers (most likely due to them going with their own fast charge tech).

it doesn't detect it at all, doesn't even register anything has been plugged in - neither the charger from my P20 Pro or my partner's P30 Pro, I could understand if these were very old chargers or cheap 3rd party ones, but they are the original Huawei ones and only a few years old. Maybe it's just a quirk with the Huawei ones, but still could have been easily avoided.

I can't hold Google completely responsible, as the network (ID) should really also have an advisory notice on the product page or when processing through the checkout. Ultimately not exactly the end of the world as I've got one coming tomorrow, but still very frustrating.

Exactly the same for me. Just got a Pixel 6 today changing from Huawei P30. The Pixel doesn't recognise the old Huawei charger at all.

Try a different USB cable, if you check the later posts for some reason the Huawei cable isn't compatible. Any other cable with the Huawei charger works fine.

I remember having to buy the Pixel stand to wirelessly charge my Pixel 3 at full speed. Otherwise it was soft locked to 5w using any other wireless charger

I've got a Huawei charger that's a USB c to c and it wouldn't charge my phone. It was bugging the life out of me. I wonder if I get a new C to C cable the plug will work? Should be a decent plug.

And to think that phone manufacturers ridiculed apple when they stopped providing a charger and then almost all of them quietly started doing the same.

Not sure this is true to be honest, I worked for 10 years at a telco and we were trying to get manufacturers (especially Samsung) to remove chargers from boxes for environmental reasons and they wouldn't have any of it. Only HTC played ball. Although we would provide a free charger if customers needed one. Since those days, sustainability has become a lot more of a higher priority to these companies and that's what we are seeing now.

That’s only true if every person buying a phone also buys a charger at the same time.

The point is that most people don’t buy a charger as they just use their existing one.
